you knew you weren't quite right?

I was happily doing 30DS, changed to level 2 when felt ready and after only 2 days of L2 my knees are just not themselves, they are aching and painful on impact, even walking down stairs makes me wince. I had 3 days off shred and in fact no exercise other than walking, today i decided that surely that was rest enough (i have no history i knee problems) so returned to 30DS but back to L1 just to be sensible and i only got half way through before i had to give it up as a bad job.

I cant even think what it is on the workout that would be effecting me like this in the first place. I have no idea of anything else i have dont to cause this problem.

So what should i do? I am thinking of trying biking later as i dont want to lose the good work 30ds has done and i want to keep the exercise up but this is not like me, however i hate being a time waster and dont want to visit my Dr who will just tell me nothing is wrong and rest.

sorry this is long winded but just curious as to what others would suggest.

thanks

I don't know the 30DS program personally but a sudden increase in impact could take time for your knees to get used to and lunges are very stressful on knees, particularly if there's a bit of a twist in your leg position.

If your knees are playing up, i would go and get some advice from your Doctor , not worth risking it!

I'm not saying don't exercise, just get advice .. Good luck on your journey!

There must be something in there putting stress on your knees that they are not ready for, i would try and isolate it and work slowly upto it using other exercises to strengthen the knees maybe?

Have you got a sports physio anywhere near you? Thats where Id be taking my knees if they were doing what yours are doing.
Dont just leave it and hope it gets better. It could be something as simple as a new pair of sneakers and some strengthening exercises to do at home.

A lot of my MFP friends and I have suffered knee problems after doing 30 DS. If you do the squats and lunges with poor form you can do serious damage to your knees so be careful. Try going on YouTube for videos on correct form when doing squats and lunges x

id give it a rest for a few days.

Cross trainer is supposed to be great low impact exercise and a lot of people are still able to do that without stressing their knees, if youve got a gym nearby
  • Sorry about your pain! I had to stop 30ds because I couldn't do any of the cardio. (Jumping jacks, jump rope, etc.) It was too high of impact on my knees. But I have been able to do zumba at least 3 times a week. Jillian says in the video that she has 300lb people doing it without a problem, I am not sure how!! I am going to attempt it again at some point just not sure when. Just sticking to the zumba for now.

    Good luck

I have not personally done 30DS - the reason being that I have seen quite a few reviews stating that it is really hard on the knees - and as I already have dodgy knees it is the last thing I need.....

So it is quite possible that it is linked to the programme, so I suggest you give your knees time to heal, and then look if there is ways that you can modify the exercises to put less strain on your knees....(I do it all the time with my Zumba DVD's where I don't do the jumps - or don't jump as high :-) )

Up your protein, and take some time off to repair muscle fibers. Also if you really need to exercise swim, low impact on joints and great exercise.

front crawl is low impact. Breast stroke is not, unless youre absolutely sure your form is perfect.
I really did my knees in by doing front crawl for an hour, it hurt to walk for over a week

I gave up 30DS after 5 days because of the pain in my knees....
Jiillian Michael's guidance in that DVD isn't very good.... I have found that Chalene Johnson in ChaLean Extreme gives better instructions on doing lunges with correct form, and I can now do full ones without any pain.

I found the website below, when I was researching reviews on 30DS.... maybe it might be of some help....

Thanks all for your words of wisdom its really helpful.

I am some what disappointed that this has happened though as i was getting great results from shred...but i am more interested in continuing being able to exercise at all and make problems worse, will def be checking my techniques out.
