I'm lacking protein in my diet what are some foods I can eat that are high in protein besides nuts?
I don't want to take a protein shake because I have been told they will make you gain weight.

    Lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish).
    Eggs.
    Cheese.
    Beans.
And my favorite, peanut butter. ;D

Hm, I've never heard that protein shakes make you gain weight...are you thinking of specific weight gainer shakes that some body builders use? I used to drink a protein shake every morning and one big scoop is only 100 calories - not sure how that would make you gain weight. I know a lot of folks on here add protein powder to several things so maybe some other folks can chime in on the matter...

Besides that though, what datzun said.

unless it's a gainer, protein powder doesn't add weight.
and with gainers, you usually have to use like3 or 4 scoops anyways.

    it's protein.
whey is usually best for weight loss.

eating too much chicken for protein will make you gain weight too :p

whey protein is usually 100-120 calories based on how much powder you use. varied between 18-22 g of protein per serving. now using milk and adding in fruit will pack in calories.

I eat a can of albacore tuna (make sure it's in water) when I'm lacking protein. Lean meats are better for you as someone else said: chicken and fish.

These are great suggestions. I'm a vegetarian so I love these!!! Also hummus (can be a calorie eater so be careful) for fewer calories get or make an edamame hummus. I have the Arctic Freeze pint of 'ice cream' product, you can eat the whole pint for 150 calories and get 9 grahms of protein. Also, if you look for better 'bread' products that have protien in them like some of the sandwich rounds and wraps have up to 9 grahms as well. Laughing cow cheese has protein but not the calories, and I usually use the egg substitute to avoid having to deal with the egg calories but still get the protein. Certain veggies have protein too like broccoli. I do eat Luna bars for protein and some protein bars, but they're high in calories so I don't always finish them in one sitting. Also instead of rice/brown rice use quinoa, it is the grain with the most protein too and is really fun tasting.

I like EAS AdvantEDGE protein shakes - 110 calories, 17 grams of protein. Also eggbeaters (or egg whites, but it bothers me to throw out the yolks - somehow I imagine the Eggbeaters people use them for something good??), and as was mentioned before, a can of tuna packed in water. I have changed my goals on MFP to get 30% of my calories from protein (higher than the original setting). sometimes I even excedd that, other times not. Protein sticks with you and helps you feel full longer and helps build muscle, which helps you burn more calories just being.

Protein shakes will NOT make you gain weight unless you're going way over on your calories. I have one nearly daily and I've lost 19 pounds in 70 days! Just look for one that is under 150 calories and has at least 15g of protein. I use Biochem Greens & Whey which is 50 calories and 10g of protein per scoop, so for 100 calories I get 20g of protein plus greens too!
