I need help....

Options
About a month ago I decided to join a gym with a friend who has had beyond amazing results. But, I realize she gets what she puts into it... So, with that said- I need a little extra energy in the morning. I would rather get that extra hour or two of sleep than workout. I have been having a problem with sleeping lately so that is an excuse I've been using for the past few weeks... Any suggestions on how to motivate myself would be great. I get that I can fit into better clothes; I'll feel better but that kind of stuff isn't working for me... Any help at all would be fabulous!

This sounds really stupid but here's what worked for me. I HAD to get up at 5:15 am to go to the gym. If I got up at 5:00 am then I wouldn't go. If I got up later than 5:15 I wouldn't go. It HAD to be 5:15 am and then I was fine. LOL

Maybe workout at night. This might help exhaust you to get to sleep earlier, and you'll be able to sleep in as opposed to having to get up. I'd try it for 2-3 weeks, and see what comes of it. You know I'll meet you there 3 days a week if you need me. You are still in the stage of figuring what works for your schedule. Maybe 2 nights a week, and one weekend morning to start? Love you!!

You have to just get up. Once you start that you'll sleep better. :)
Just do it! Put the alarm clock in the bathroom.

How about just your general and overall health? You will actually feel less tired when you start to become healthier. I know how you feel, I used to feel like I could sleep all day ~lol~ And yes, I still have a long way to go but I can already notice the difference. I hope you figure it out...and feel free to add me if you want. People are great motivators as well :)

I have some friends I only see at excercise, so that helps me go when I don't feel like it.

Is it possible to break up the workout into two? Maybe join her for part of her workout in the morning, but then go again to finish out your own calorie burn later on so you still get a bit of a lie-in?

I hate working out in the morning too. I'm more of a mid-morning person. RIght now I have the flexibilty in my job to go to the gym during lunch. Even if I just get on the treadmill and zone-out watching tv, it's better than nothing.

If you don't have that flexibility, just do 2 things in the morning and you'll see result and be amazed at the energy boost. Just get up and do your coffee thing, or whatever, but before you shower, do 20 jumping jacks and 20 push-ups. No gym or equipment necessary and it will take you less than 3 minutes!

A friend of mine sleeps in her workout outfit so all she has to do is roll out of bed and brush and go. That helps her. No matter how bad you feel before, you know you'll feel great after...So go! :-)

My local gym includes a variety of classes... I go to the class, meet someone there and then promise to meet again then next class. It's hard to let someone else down when you said you'd be there!

Also, I have a poster of like 10 girls in bikinis in my room so it's the first thing i see when I wake up haha.

There's no other way to say it ....just Do it! I am not a morning person either, but I get up early and get my exercise in for the day, and then all those late day excuses can't be used! LOL
I now feel worse if I don't get up and exercise. It has really changed my whole morning demeanor. Yes it was difficult DRAGGING myself out of bed at 545am but it has paid off so well!!

Seems like that friend with amazing results can be an inspiration to you. Can you ask her to call you and wake you up when she goes or work out a schedule where y'all go together?

There are some great suggestions on here, but what about addressing the sleep issue? I went to a sleep study in Feb. and they determined I had Sleep Apnea and it was as though I was being woken up every 4 minutes.

If your insurance covers it, go do a sleep study and get that right!

Follow those other suggestions in the meantime!

i used to have a similar problem when my commute/work day was 12-13 hours 5days a week, and i had to be out the door by 7.30am otherwise iw ould be an hour+ late for work, and as a temp, that just wasnt feasible, so i did my workouts in the evening, my brother now does the same as he has the same issue. you just get up go to work, remembering all day that you are going to workout tonight, get home, have a light dinner, wait an hour, then workout, yes this meant that i wasnt working out til 8.30/9pm every night, but it tired me out so i could sleep better and was sooo worth it, the results were amazing, doing that and following a calorie controlled diet and having weekends a little more relaxed i lost a stone and a half in about 6months! :-) thats 21lbs :-) (shame i then went back to university, lead a more sedentary lifestyle and didnt watch what i ate as much and gained 7lbs back) so if like me, you just know its no use trying to workout that early in the morning, it will just make you resent getting up and exercising even more than you (or i at least) already do) which in turn will lead to a higher chance of you just not doing it, dont. choose a plan and stick to it. if you want to give morning workouts a try, then go ahead, good luck to you and i admire anyone who has that kind of will power. But, when you think of it, what else would you be doing most evenings anyway? laying on the sofa watching tv? wanting to snack out of boredom? evening workouts mean you get to sleep in til the last possible minute, and you eliminate 1-2hours+ of your evening where you may be tempted to eat/drink something over your calorie allowance, and the bonus for me is that it helped my sleep too :-)

    Good luck :-) x

unfortunately you need to just suck it up and do it. about a month ago i decided to start riding my bike to work. i am NOT a morning person, so this was very difficult for me. but i now have a routine where i hit snooze once, then get out of bed, down a cup of coffee, quick shower and then hop on the bike.

You have to set a rule for yourself that you will be in bed to go to sleep at X time. That's it. Turn of the TV early and get ready for bed early and get in bed on time. Don't think of it as punishment. Think of it as pleasure and a GIFT to yourself. More sleep actually helps you LOSE weight. And you feel better. So go to BED!
