I'm not so good with stress. What I consider hard core major stress sends me into a tail spin and all I want is chips flamming hot cheetos lays bbq I don't eat good food and I get spazzing mucles in my back.
Does any one have a good technique for getting their bodies to relax durring times of stress.

Running is a HUGE stress relief for me!! I put on my ipod to some fast jams or turn on a good TV show or movie and pound out the stress. It's like a valium for me! Also, pets are a huge stress relief for me. I have 2 dogs and if I go outside and play with them or take them on a walk they make everything seem better. I have to be careful to stay out of the kitchen.... because, like you, if I don't make a concious decision, I will stress eat!! Hope this helps! ;)

go for a walk/run, workout, ride. Get out and take that stress and make it work for you. :) I often clean the kitchen. You know "clean". Fridge, cupboards, etc. When I was growing up my Mother taught me this so that I could turn a negative into a postive. :)

Get that crap food out of the house and you won't be able to eat it.

Workout. Cry. Do something for me (think bubble bath, redoing your nails, getting your hair done at the salon, etc.).

Hi if i'm really stressed i do one of 3 things, 1. I get super busy, cleaning/gardening anything, or 2. all that will do is comfort food, or 3. I go in on myself and completely stop eating. i guess only 1. is healthey lol

I swim. I swim laps until I can't anymore. Then I put on my i-pod with some really mellow music & walk the dogs for a nice leisurely stroll. Take a nice cool shower then relax on the balcony with a good book OR I enjoy a good B&W movie on Turner Classics
Watching Bette Davis put a man in his place soothes me LOL
  • I use to binge on sweets when something/someone upset me until I realized it was only hurting me more to do that.....now, I made me a feel good CD with only uplifting tunes and I will listen to it and workout or clean....whatever to take my mind off of the situation/person.

Exercise does help, especially getting outside for a long walk. But another good thing is, there are guided meditations on youtube. Do a search, and they have them on all different topics, but there are a ton of good ones for relaxation. They always help me!

    I try to walk!

I'm just back to work after three weeks off with a stress related headache and high blood pressure... my poor puppy had the legs almost walked off it for that entire three weeks!

After my walks I make a cup of tea and sit in front of the tv for half an hour and then go for a nice bath

Unfortunately the majority of my stress seems to come from trying to waken my fiance in the mornings... it's an impossible and thankless task!
  • I follow Deepak Chopra's breathing techniques when life becomes overwhelming. I run also, go for walks, chase my kids around the playground. I don't have the junk food crap in my house. And my husband doesn't tell me where the keys are, so if I crave something not in the house, I have to walk the almost 2 miles to the grocery store to get it. And by then, the stress is gone, or I've added 4 miles of exercise in to enjoy my treat. Also, have someone you can communicate with. It's stupid to keep your stress to yourself. You need to have someone you can share EVERY single ****ty detail with, cry with and not be embarassed, yell at and they won't take offense because they know you're only venting. Journal, write down your feelings and what kind of food you're craving when you experience those emotions, show them to your doctor and you can figure out a plan of action that's best for you.

RUN.....I just run. Exercise is the best way to deal with stress and since you need exercise anyways, might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
When I run, all the cares and stress of the day/week/month year.....etc....gone. Just me and the road or treadmill and some good music.
