waxing question for the ladies

I'm not sure what category this falls under so I went with the safe bet.
It's more a "survey" than a question just to see what others do.

I generally only (bikini) wax in the summer, but I recently started doing it myself at home so I'm just curious, for those that do wax, either your self or you go and get it done, how long between waxings do you wait? I usually only get it twice in the summer and use other methods during the winter. And also, what do you do about strays or the new hair growing in between waxings?

hopefully thats wasn't too vulgar!

I have it done about every 6 weeks because they told me that's how long I should wait, something about the cycle/growth of the hair. I will tweeze a stray if it grows outside the bikini zone but otherwise I don't really do anything about the new hair, it has to get to a certain length or it can't be waxed very well.

I usually go 5-6 weeks between (but I do the full monty) because otherwise the hair is not long enough to get a good grip with the wax.

Typically every 4 - 5 weeks, but more often if you're just starting. As far as strays/ingrowns, if you go to a good salon they should take care of it and use this funky wand treatment to prevent them (UV light I think, not sure, but it works). I have friends that just exfoliate and they say that helps but sounds kind of painful to me lol no salt scrubs near my girly parts...

I tried to do it myself one time and almost passed out. OUCH.
More power to the ones that do it at home......

Like everyone else has said, tweeze the strays.

I just shave. I typically shave it all every 3 days because my hair grows fast and I like to be baby smooth. I've always wanted to wax but I prefer the no pain route!

Do it myself at home, just when ever "it" looks ready. I also tweeze stray hairs outside the bikini zone. Overall though, the hair grows back way too fast. I only wax because it causes less irritation than shaving for me.

I know different hairs can be on different growth cycles, and it seems that at 50% of them are on one cycle and the rest on another, so hence the growing back super fast. I guess I need to let that area get a little crazy, then trim the longer ones, and THEN wax it all.... UGH.
  • I go between 4-5 weeks too and I pluck the strays. I've been waxing since I was 14, so I'm pretty numb to the hair-removing action.

Exfoliation is the way forward! Use a gentle sugar based exfoliant rather than the more abrasive salt one's and it'll be fine.

Like everyone else has said round about 5 weeks between waxes is normal, though it depends on your hair type etc.

My bikini line and underarm are the only things that I won't wax myself, thank god that little sister is a beauty therapist!

yep, 4-5 weeks and tweeze. Waxing lasts way longer! Seems like every time there is less and less too... Thank God...

Okay so be honest, HOW BAD DOES IT HURT, CAUSE IF I DONT HAVE TO SHAVE EVERY WEEK, I'M TOTALLY CONSIDERING! LOL

the $1500 is by far the best deal I have found in the Phoenix area. Every place else is charging $2500 + for just one area. PLUS my spa does payment plans for it! haha I can't spend the money right now but I will hopefully have the rest saved up very very soon.

There is only one spot that actually hurts and makes you cringe a little. It's the spot right above the start of the labia. BUT it's usually gone in one to two strips depending on your hair type and thickness. and the rest of the area is just a minor annoyance. Plus most spas sell a numbing cream that you can use before you get it done. I use the relax and wax no scream cream.

Wow thanks all for the responses!

Yes, it does hurt especially the first couple times and certain spots hurt more than others (to those that asked). And yes, I do it myself but only the bikini line. The full thing gets done by a pro... something about keeping the skin taught just doesnt work when you are working at that angle.... trying to keep it PG lol.

I wish I could afford laser cuz I used to shave every other day and I am getting sick of it which is why I decided to wax myself. Though I have heard that the laser treatment can be painful as well....especially when its closer to the "inside" area (hope that made sense).

I shave, maybe once a week. I don't think I could ever wax there. I'm bad enough trying to get ny eyebrows waxed!

I do a full Brazilian wax every 3 weeks. it hurts pretty bad, but its over quickly and it does get SLIGHTLY less painful once the hair starts thinning out.

I've never waxed how much does 1 cost. Also how long does the hair have to be, I shave so obviously I would have to have more hair. Shaving irritates my skin so I keep thinking about waxing. 1 every 5 weeks is less frequent than I thought you had to go.

I pay $40 for a wax, but there are some spas that do it for $120, so it just depends on where you go. I always got in-grown hairs and major irritation shaving, so I switched to waxing. It depends on the person how often you have to go. For the first wax the hair needs to be 3/4 to 1 inch long but it only needs to be 1/2 inch or so long for the next wax. I don't shave at all between waxes so I go every 3 weeks and the hair grows to the perfect length in that amount of time.

I did the laser, spent $750 for 5 treatments and it didn't work at all. It was such a waste of money and so painful!
