Really high triglycerides???

I just got my lab work back and my triglycerides are over 400, , that is 4 times what they should be. The strang part is my LDL and HDL are completely normal! I am on birth control and may or may not have metabolic syndrome which are known to raise levels, but that much!? Does any one else have really high triglycerides and treated it through diet. I don't eat very much meat and almost no red meat. I am getting another round of blood work done in August to see the effect the weight loss has done so I will talk to my doctor then, maybe it will have gone down by then aswell.

weight loss alone not enough. carbohydrates and saturated fats play lge role in this. gf was over 10000 and with diet changes and exercise 6 days a week now down to 160. if it is not a natural food try to avoid it and eat only dreamfields pasta.0

I was told to limit things like baked goods and white flour and white pasta - those sorts of things - to change triglycerides through diet, also exercise, but the diet changes were less to do with meat and more with the processed foods. My numbers weren't super high two years ago, but through these changes I've brought my levels to normal. If you numbers are really high, it could be something else along with it.0

The last time had bloodwork done... which was years ago, everything was normal or better except my triglycerides, they were in the 300's. I was very active, normal weight and BMI, ate (fairly healthy).
From what I remember learning in college, your trigs are likely to be higher if you eat a lot of sweets, refined carbs, and processed foods.
Your post reminds me I should go get my blood checked again....0 -
This is interesting. Over the last month I have refined my eating choices more so I am intested to see if they will have gone down by my next lab work. I would really like to avoid medicine if possible.0

you can definitely avoid meds. My trigs are up over 300 and my fasting blood sugar was 120 which is high (they diagnose diabetes at 126) Other posters are right...high triglycerides are directly related to carbohydrate consumption (like white bread, pastas and even potatoes) My Dr. wants me to follow a lower carb diet that includes some fruit and some whole grains like oatmeal, brown rice and 100% whole wheat bread. Another tip...AVOID anything with corn syrup/high fructose corn syrup. I know it's hard to do because it is in so many foods but if you eat a diet high in unprocessed whole natural foods, it is possible. Good luck0
