I've had many different kinds of oolong teas. Oolong is not the name of a tea or a flavor but rather the way in which it is processed. There are three main ways teas are processed: Black teas which are the most fermented and have the highest caffeine content (still much lower than coffee), oolongs which are partially fermented and have some caffeine but less than black tea, and green tea which is not fermented at all and has the lowest caffeine level.
There are many types of oolong teas (I once told a friend that I was drinking Hairy Crab Oolong and he replied that "hairy" and "crab" were two words he never wanted to hear together again.) Some are almost as green as green teas while others are quite dark. Many of them have what is often described as a "peachy" flavor. They don't take sugar or milk well. The best ones have a natural sweetness. I really like the flavor of most oolongs, but I think many Americans find them quite different.
As far as their weight loss benefits, studies have shown that oolongs do aid in fat-burning and in blocking fats. I won't swear to how effective they are, but I'm sure if you do a search online for "oolong" and "weight loss", you can find any number of studies and articles.
Be warned that higher grade oolongs can be quite pricy. Drinking fine teas is comparable to drinking fine wines; you pay accordingly for the best. However, there are many reasonably priced oolong teas available. I don't want to appear to be advertising for any site, so I won't post any links. However, if you want to send me a message, I can point you to some good online tea vendors, none of whom I have any association with other than being a satisfied customer.
Hope this helps!0
