We're planning on buying a rowing machine to add to our treadmill and trainer bike for the exercise room. Can anybody recommend one? I don't really want to spend more than $600

A concept 2 rower is the best one to buy..I wouldn't know how much they are. The cheap ones don't last and aren't sturdy enough!

Sound advice avoid the cheaper ones I love my rower but I purchased a cheap one around $250. If it is possible check to see if they have a used place to buy gym exercise equipment with $600 you should be able to buy a very nice one. I live in IL and we have a very nice place that sells used gym equipment at very low prices.

Concept 2 is the only answer. The problem is they are very popular with the cross fit crowd, so it is not easy to find them cheap.

Also note that proper form is essential for a good rowing workout (lots of people at the gym just randomly yank and wail away on the machine).

Funny you should post this because I started looking for one a few days ago. I found one around $600 (in Canada), unfortunately it's too short for my husband and kids who are all over 6"! The ones at my gym are Concept2 and they are really nice.

Update! This is what we have purchased. LoVe it! It's so quiet and works awesome. Thanks everyone for your replies. It was very helpful. We considered the Concept type but I went with Tunturi as it has 2 rails and sold by a small, mom and pop shop type fitness store. I know we'll get the support we need. Yes, we spent around $1300 but oh well! LOL Almost double what I set out to do but we had the money and this is sooo worth it.
