hello, I am going to my local farmer-style market for some organic seeds, nuts etc. to make my own cereal mix at home.

I am looking for a substantial reduction in sugar content than I have found with the boxed granola's...any ideas?

Thank you very much!

Yes, Granola is very easy to make, you can control the oil and the sugar type/content. I'm a dump cook so I don't have a written recipe but if you can't google up something that you like - I can come up with a base recipe for you.

would like to read your ideas! always seems a bit nicer to "hear" from one who has tried something rather than web...although there are some really great sites for sure :) thank you!

Try this - you can be pretty creative with this.

    Dry
6 cups rolled oats – you can use ‘Quaker’ but the stuff at the health food store is better.
    ½ cup sunflower seeds
    ½ cup wheat germ
    ¼ cup ground flax meal
1/2 cup chopped nuts of your choice – almonds, walnuts, etc..

Spices – very much a personal choice – start here you can add more, allspice and cloves work too.
    2 teaspoons cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground ginger

Liquids – again you can adjust oils/sugar water
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup grape seed oil
    ½ cup maple syrup
Dissolve ½ cup of brown/raw sugar in a cup of water.

About a cup of dried fruit – more if you like
    Cherries are good
Craisins/Raisins – could be too sweet depending on type.
There is a mix at CostCo I like that has dried apples in also.

    Pre-heat oven to 250. Convection 225.
Mix the dry ingredients in a big bowl, mix in spices.
Mix liquid together and I heat it up in the microwave to melt the sugar.

Add the liquid to the dry and make sure the oats are all moist.

Spread on to a cookie sheet or two, bake for 10 minutes, stir lightly, repeat twice or another time the mixture is dry but not browned.
Now it may not ‘chunk’ up if you spread it around too much –there isn’t enough sugar/oil in this to really chunk up much.
Store in an air tight container.

Thanks ks! I appreciate the recipes, so cool:bigsmile:

    I decided to use:

everything is organic except the chia seeds because I haven't found any yet, lol

    chia seeds
    ground flax
    raw sunflower seeds
    hemp seeds
    shredded coconut
    fresh raspberries
    fresh blackberries
    hemp oil
    walnuts

Blend some bananas, filtered water and almond extract (chilled to perfection of course) to pour over the top! divine:wink:

The whole kit & caboodle is as "raw" and sweet as can be!
