I've been thinking about fibre lately...
And a few questions for the fibre fans...

Whats your favourite way of adding fibre to your food?
How many grams of fibre do you eat per day on a high fibre diet per day?
And has anyone read that fibre diet book (F6? I think) that came out last year?

Fiber One stuff is great--I love everything they make particularly the caramel cereal, the chocolate breakfast pastries, and the yogurt!

Flax seed. It packs a wallop - 2g per tablespoon. So you figure if I add a tablespoon to each meal and one of my snacks, that's 8 grams, and I'm trying to get at least 25g per day which is my 'formal' goal. Sometimes I make it to 30, which is my ' personal' goal.

Just a little fore-warning: Extra fiber (including Fiber One Bars) can make you gassy. It will eventually go away, but for the first while, your body has to adjust. I try and get 25-30 g per day.

Some of my fave fruits have lots of fibre, have some strawberries! yummy. Whole grains are also a good choice.

I heard somewhere that if you up your fibre intake you should also increase your water? Otherwise you run the risk of constipation..

Increase your fibre slowly. Upset tummy, constipation and gas will be the result if you do it too quickly. Drinking lots of water is always a good idea.
  • I learned that the hard way! I just started eating fiber one bars, and have had a lot of stomach problems. I didn't realize I was consuming so little fiber before!
