Hey, everyone. I need some help. I'm doing okay on calories, but want to cut out some extra fat by cutting mayonnaise down or out of my diet. I don't like mustard, but can't eat a dry sandwich. Can y'all give me ideas for sandwich topping substitutes? Thanks!

Beat me to it. Hummus is an excellent sub for mayonnaise. It adds the creaminess that you're looking for.0 -
Low fat mayo? Hummus? Guacamole/Avocado?0

have you tried lofat miracle whip of fat free? i actually prefer the free kind to the regular. some people cant do miracle whip if they eat mayo, but i can go either way. Ketchup is a good alternative, but its full of sugar (hfcs)0

a peice of laughing cow cheese? It spreads pretty good and tastes really good!0

Low fat smooth cottage cheese is yummy too!0

Fromage frais, cottage cheese, creme freche...0

avocado/guac, a little bit of evoo and red vinegar, I really love using Italian dressing.0

I generally use:
Mashed avocado
Olive Oil Mayo (40 cals per tbsp)
Hummus
Laughing Cow Lite Cheese (a variety of flavors)
Mustard
Vinegar0 -
I use light ranch dressing and add some oregano on top of it for sandwiches. Very delicious!0

Laughing Cow Cheese is my new favorite thing to add to sandwiches or wraps... avacado is good too0

I use weight watchers salad cream style dressing (uk)0

I really like to use the Laughing Cow cheese, the garlic and herb one. It does a wonderful job of replacing mayo!0

Depending on the sandwich, i love hummus and guac (altho calorie wise gauc is still high-but it has good fats in it). Also light mayo or using less mayo? The other thing is a light salad dressing, if you are looking for creaminess a little light salad dressing in your flavor of choice goes a long way.0

lite miracle whip is 20 calories for a tbsp.0

I agree with the laughing cow cheese idea as I do that often. For those suggesting avocado or guac, isn't there still a lot of fat in that?0

You said you wanted to cut the fat, so a lot of my recommendations, as well as the recommendations of others, like avocado and hummus, wouldn't necessarily help with that.
Best bet would just be low fat or fat free mayo: low fat is 4g per Tbsp.
And just my opinion, but I don't worry so much about fat anymore since most of mine comes from "healthy" sources. I watch my sugar intake much more closely these days.0 -
I use lighter than light mayo only 14 cals per tablespoon0

Sometimes, I will put a little creamy Italian dressing on my sandwich with Turkey, cheese, cukes, & tomatoes. It sounds funny, but is really tasty.0

I opt for the light mayo (Kraft Miracle Whip Light is 20 cals per tablespoon. Not sure of the fat...) or I have recently taken to spreading on the Laughing Cow or Weight Watchers light cheese wedges onto my sandwich. I like the Jalapeno cheese one. It's like, 35 calories and very low fat, if not fat free. Check it out!0

Have to echo the Laughing Cow Cheese suggestion.
I've start subbing it for cheese slices. Eliminates about 100 calories from how I used to make a sandwich.0 -
I use fat free ranch dressing, about a tablespoon or so-I think it tastes great! Pretty similar to mayo!0

Franks red hot. Particularly the "wing. Hot buffalo". Its thick. Spreadable. And adds a delicious kick to any sandwich.
I stand by their motto. I put that *kitten* on everything!
Hummus works too.0 -
i use a little low fat cream cheese.. but i dont eat mayo at all.. i hate it...0

SALSA. I love the stuff and eat it nearly everyday. I have lately been having the Starkist low-sodium chunk light tuna pouch (80 cals), lowfat Swiss cheese slice (60 cals), multigrain sandwich thin (100 cals), handful of spinch (5 cals), and three scrumptious tablespoons of salsa (15 cals). Delicious, filling, fast sammie (260 cals) bound together by SALSA!0

tzatziki sauce. they sell it at costco and it's SO yummy on a wrap or salad with chicken, turkey burgers or whatever kind of meat you like. It's low in fat, calories and BIG on taste. Take it from this mayo addict!0

^YES to this! YUM... love that stuff!
I also put salsa on just about anything, subs, veggies, salads...it is full of flavor and low cal... just watch the sodium :drinker:0 -
