Losing my umph

I don't know if it's because I've been doing this since April, or if it's because I feel like I can't take care of any of my business; but I am really starting to slack on my logging. Not even the good stuff. The other day I had a 1000 calorie workout (rode my bike almost 20 miles), and I only logged half of it. I still have good intentions, and my habits have drastically improved, but I'm just not as passionate as I used to be. I'm still doing it, but it feels like a chore.

What do you guys do when you just don't want to anymore?

didn't it take the same amount of time and effort to log half of your bike ride as it would have to have to logged it all? j/w also, i have found that as i have kept going it gets easier bc alot of my food is the same, and i usually do it the night before, while i am eating a snack...hope you find your motivation! just remember why you started it in the first place!

I don't know what advice to offer, but I kind of feel the same way. I'm continuing to log, but have no desire to work out, and my foods, while remaining under the calorie limit, have not been that healthy sometimes. I find myself eating more snack-ish stuff, etc. I feel good that I'm still doing it, but then I see how much exercise others are doing, and I feel like I'm slacking. My thought is that if I just keep forcing myself to log and try my best, the motivation will eventually come back. Just keep at it! Good luck.

I have been on this journey on MFP for an entire 13 months. I make it a point to always log in and do my food diary in the morning so it keeps me motivated. It gets monotonous I know, but if you change things up and find new ways to deal with it all it does stay fresh and easy. Just don't over think it all.

Looking at what others are logging can work both ways, either motivate you to do the same or cause a lack of motivation due to your food / execise not seeming to be on parr!! It's difficult but you have to focus on what you're doing and the benefits you'll have by understanding what you are eatiing. It may seem like a chore at times but it's benefits far out weigh the negatives.

I think there is a "honeymoon period"--- and then a person starts taking the "tools" here for granted. Gets to a point where you have to change it up, try a new food, try a new activity or something? I know, it takes more "umph" to do that ---- I find if I overthink things I talk myself out of it..... but if I just make myself take small steps, I am better. One option take a "maintenance break" and give yourself permission to hold on to your loss, before going in high gear to lose again? However, that could backfire........ best of luck to you!!!

Do it anyway, least that's what I do! For me to get results I have to push forward toward my goal of getting healthier and taking excess weight off my body.

Motivation comes from within...we all have to dig deep to pull it sometimes. We can all encourage, inspire, suggest but it's ourselves we keep motivated from deep within! :flowerforyou:

Think about why you started this path, what did you want to get out of it? Have you met those goals? If so time to create some new ones and refocus and get excited again!

Even when we reach our goal weight, it's going to take each of us to push ourselves to continue to keep it off. Once we've reach a particular goal weight, it's not like we've arrived, to keep the weight off is the hard part and something we'll continually work at the rest of our lives. The rewards are along the way, to be able to move better, have better endurance, fit into clothes we might not have been able to in the past. To know that we are healthier beings because of a choice we made at the beginning and continue to make each moment of our lives.

Might not be what you wanted to hear but it's true.

I really am not a fan of logging. My dietitian and I talked about how hard it was for me to remember to do, and she told me to get an app for my phone. That's how I found MFP. (The app she recommended I try is only for iPhone. Boo.) It helps me that it's on my phone some of the time. It still doesn't really help me all the time. I just try to sit down and do it. It just sucks.

It really does help in the long run to log, though. I know that when I'm better about logging, I'm better about losing.

If you find a way to make it easier or whatever, let me know!

    Best of luck!

I wonder if trying a new sport/activity might inspire you a bit. Obviously you have the willpower to keep going if you rode 20 miles on your bike. I guess what I'm saying is, maybe it's time to mix it up. Once something becomes a routine some of the fun is lost.

That's a good one. And really, that's where I'm at right now.
didn't it take the same amount of time and effort to log half of your bike ride as it would have to have to logged it all?

I did it in two parts. I logged the first part, but not the second.
Obviously you have the willpower to keep going if you rode 20 miles on your bike.

Actually, that was the first time I ever did it. I was pretty excited about it! Really it's not the doing of the stuff, it's the monotany of logging it all in. I'm going to stick with it no matter what, I was just sort of wondering what other people do to find their motivation to log when it goes out the window.

Great that you want to stick with everything. Your point about logging is understandable. My wife has the same thoughts. I kind of just do it because I have to. I feel like if I don't sort of obsess about this that I'll let myself slip. It just takes a few minutes to do even if I just do it at the end of the day in one shot.

I think we all have highs and lows...

The important thing to remember is, there is only one person going to do this; yourself. If you give up, then you'll just end up back where you were before (and some...)

The older you get, the more difficult the weight is to shift...

I sincerely hope you stick with it, but you may need to get your head straight first?

Why has your motivation dwindled; not seeing results?
