What is the best kind to buy?

Check out the various Polar models. I have the FT7 and I believe it does all of that.0

If you do a search, there are about 10 topics a day posted about HRM's great info in so many of them, look for one that has lots of pages0

Like outersoul said, the Polar models are very popular and the FT7 and FT5 are the most common ones I have seen here on the boards. Whatever brand/model you decide to get, make sure it has a chest strap. The wristwatch only models are notorious for being inaccurate.0
