replica of one pound of fat

Options
Hello All,

I am trying to find the approximate dimensions of one pound of human fat. Bizarre request I know, I can't think of a better motivator than being able to visualize what a one pound loss looks like.

I know they can be purchased on Amazon but the prices are over 30 dollars....for a piece of plastic!

Any help would be appreciate.

Thank you!

My profile pic shows a comparison of 5 lbs of fat to 5 lbs of muscle. Not sure if that helps or not.

in reality, you could pick up anything that is one pound to get something u can lift to tell how much it is lost.. for bigger measurements, like lets say 5, 10, etc pounds, pick up a bag of apples, onions, potatoes, etc.

Given a quick literature search... the density of human fat is approximately 0.9kg/L while the density of human muscle is about 1.06kg/L.

This would mean that 1lb of human fat is approximately 0.50L while 1lb of human muscle is about 0.43L.

I'm basing my answer on this, so take it with a grain of salt...
    http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/576481.html

"Muscle density is 1.06 g/ml and fat density is (about) 0.9 g/ml."

    1 pound = 453.59237 grams

So, 1 lb of fat, would occupy 504 ml

And 1 lb of muscle would occupy 428 ml

    Edit: @chrisfnet - you're too fast!

Thank you all! Wow, that really is some good motivation! I pound of fat volume wise is a lot more than I thought it would be.
