Is it healthy to exercise every day? Or should there be at least one day of complete rest?

I give myself 2 days each week...I notice if I over-work my body then my scale goes no where.
Give your body a rest and it will have time to recover and you will drop faster. In my experience.
  • You should have at least one day of complete rest. Your body and mind need it.

Rest will help your body flush the water from the muscles. You will retain water due to the muscles using it for repair.

You don't have to take a stay on the couch rest day, it can be active...walking/swimming whatever, just make it light and no where near your normal intensity during a workout.

I rest one day a week (on saturdays). Those this week I might trade in sunday for saturday. But anyway it's always nice to have a day off to recover and let your muscles and body heal. This recovery time is important because you're breaking down muscle continuously you need to let them heal so you can actually build the muscle.

Once you get to a reasonable level of fitness, you can incorporate active rest on your rest days. For me, workout days include hard running, circuit training or spinning. On my active rest days I do swimming or fast walking. I hate not being active!

I'm the same way. On my rest days, I do PiYo which is a fusion of pilates and yoga. It's not nearly as strenuous as my other workouts, but it doesn't allow me to sit on my rump either.

However, I do feel that rest days are extremely beneficial and I have at least 1, sometimes 2, rest days a week.
