Good morning! I joined this week, looking for a site that will both help me track/monitor my food intake and provide a helpful, supportive community to find inspiration, discussion and potentially sanity. I’m a 34 year old female, looking to lose anywhere from 75-100 lbs. I started a modified elimination diet this week, to see if it can help correct some health problems I’ve been having for a while (chronic sinus issues, asthma, migraines, GERD, etc.) and decided to turn that in to something positive and revamp the way I eat and the way I look at food. Currently I’m not consuming any gluten and only very minimal dairy (I can’t give up my 2 tablespoons of half and half in my morning coffee, or a small amount of healthy dark chocolate). I’m avoiding some acidic foods (tomatoes, citrus, etc) but that will only be for a short while.

I’ve tried other diets in the past, like WW and Medifast and while they both worked (I lost 50+ lbs on Medifast), it all eventually came back because I didn’t change my mentality towards food. Over the past year or so, I actually became a ‘secret’ eater, and would hide/hoard junk food in my room to binge on it shamefully. Ugh.

I also recently bought a Forbes Riley Dual Elliptical/Bike (http://health-fitness.hsn.com/forbes-riley-body-rider-dual-trainer-elliptical-cycle_pf-131953_xp.aspx) for exercising at home, and plan on putting it together this weekend (which will be a workout in and of itself, lugging the 70 lb package up 3 flights of stairs! ). I took a nasty fall about 2 years ago and as a result have had persistent tendonitis in my left knee, so I’m hoping this low-impact exercise will help to relieve that problem.

Other than that, um, I’m a SciFi geek in my spare time, love to read and work a corporate job where I’m at a desk for about 7 hours a day. I’d love to make some friends here, get some support and provide some in return.

Welcome! It sounds like you have a very positive attitude and it seems like you have definitely changed your mentality concerning food  I have also made some big changes because of health issues. I have checked out a lot of free weightloss sites and in my opinion this one is the best. It has the best database for food/nutrition info and also an exercise database, i think you will really like it here...welcome aboard!
