We all struggle with this so I found this little advice on www.everydayhealth.com
Get a Grip on Emotional Eating:
To help halt emotional eating, says Sofia Rydin-Gray, Ph.D., assistant director of behavioral health and lifestyle coaching at Duke, first suss out why you're reaching for that pint of ice cream in the first place. She suggests asking yourself the following questions before eating.
1. Am I hungry?
2. How am I feeling?
3. What do I really need?
4. What can I do instead?
"Some clients add questions, such as, 'How long will have to exercise if I eat this?' Or, 'How many calories will I have burn?'" says Rydin-Gray. "One client put a note on the fridge that says: 'What you're looking for isn't in here.'"

Thanks for sharing this, it looks really helpful!
I can be an emotional eater whenever i am upset (or bored). I found that entering in the thing i am about to binge on into MFP beforehand and seeing how much damage it does to my progress and daily limits helps to put me off eating that tub of ice cream.0 -

So true. Although one should really search for the true reasons they turn to food for comfort. Until one finds the underlying reasons then they are going to keep struggling. I am still fighting this battle.0

Great article with great advice!! I was an emotional eater for years; if I was happy I ate, if I was sad I ate, if I was mad I REALLY ATE!! I also always had a problem with eating with friends who didn't have weight problems...what they ate, I ate! I know for me what has worked has been this site!! If I eat it, I log it!! I'm also so thrilled with my results (23 lbs lost, hit my 1st goal & I'm 2 lbs from my stretch goal!) that I really feel like I've conquered the yo-yo pattern that plagued me for years!
Good luck-friend me if you want a buddy!!
