when you make notes on "friiends" food diaries, do you actually read the diary, or just notice they are "under" and state wtg, gj, nice looking diary? Just curious, because mine yesterday was HORRIBLE (cheat day) and yet I still got the "wtg", "kudos", "gj". That just makes me wonder if anyone actually READ that I had a fried Oreo or 5 Bud Lights, etc. So, do you really read your "friends" diaries, or just make nice comments? I would rather someone call me on it, honestly. What about you?

I probably actually look at 9 out of 10 of my friends' viewable diaries before I comment. I'm not going to say way to go, if you had a crappy day.

I read them or I don't comment. A few friends who I know personally, their diaries aren't able to be viewed but I still encourage them with a "good progress" type of motivation only bc I know them and I know they're making progress and I know they've been struggling with the whole diet/weight loss process. But, for people I am only friends with here on MFP - if I can't read it, I say nothing. I agree with you - I'd much rather someone say "Wow Jayde you really sucked today, what's wrong with you?"

I'm with you. I am not encouraging that, especially if they say they are trying to lose weight and want to stay under "x" calories and for days straight they are far over, I am not going to say "good job!" I might comment on something that looks good foodwise to me, i.e. the hummus, etc., but I am not going to comment just to comment, and not without looking at it, first.

i never comment without reading the diary, and never give 'kudos' without feeling they are warranted *S*
i am also one of those people some dislike alot because i will point out times when it seems the person i am commenting in is perhaps off track *L*

but everyone handles leaving comments their own way.. naturally *S*

If I don't think the menu was healthy I don't reply at all. I do check out what they ate before commenting and if I don't see any fruits or veggies, or if they ate below 1200 I don't comment. I tried commenting on what I thought was lacking and I don't think the people appreciated it so I stopped.

If any of my friends read this, don't worry, I don't get around to reading everyone's diary so if I don't comment don't take it wrong

If someone posts a topic on the boards asking advice on their menu I'm usually all over that!

I always look and if I would've seen that on my friend's journal (Bud Light, fried Oreo) I would've made it a funny comment! I like to read other's entries for different ideas and to see what other people are eating.
  • I look at the bottom line.....I am not on a diet....I eat what I want.....But I know the calories of what I eat....and its working!!!!!

I am also not on a diet, am in no way trying to lose weight, but I still think it is pretty funny to see those types of comments when I KNOW it was not a good day. I even pointed out the beer. I was like, really? Did you see the 5 beers???

I mean, I am not going to be rude to others when commenting by any means, because I too, believe that we are all adults and we can and will eat what we want, but at the same time, I am not singing praises on a day like I had yesterday...

I honestly do not comment on any of my friends diaries whether they are under or not and I have changed my "news feed" options so that my updates do not indicate when I have completed my diary for the day because I don't really need others to comment on that area (but it is still viewable to those friends that are interested in looking). What someone else may perceive as a poor food choice (having a nightly "treat") someone else may see as just fine. Now if someone complains that they are not losing and asks for input or a review of their diary, I will call them out on the fact that they (for instance) eat fast food for breakfast every single day or that their "treat calories" outweigh their "food calories" etc.

I agree with you though...I would never comment positively on someone's diary simply because they stayed under their calorie goal...that's why I stopped commenting!

If I've commented, I've read it. If it's not viewable, I don't comment.

And I know you've read mine (completely public) because you've commented on my personal comments.

It makes me feel good when people are specific when commenting, like they actually give a rat's *kitten*.

I don't even care that people eat healthy or clean or whatever, but kudos on the 5 beers and fried oreo, really? hahaha, but YOU called me out on the bottle of wine the other night, so I know you read it. Speaking of, I think I could use one now. Right now. :frown:

All joking aside, me too. Just found out we're going to be a 1car family until Tues because the lady who backed onto John's hood caused $1200 in damage... I hate fighting to have driving rights!! :grumble:
