Fitted for Running Shoes

I keep reading that I need to be fitted for running shoes at a running store. Can anyone give me of an example where I might get this done at?? I am expecting to have to drive to Kansas City (MO) to do this but I still don't know where I would go. Most of the places I shop at (****'s, Famous Footwear, Foot Locker, etc) I don't see where their employees know much more about fitting a shoe than I do. Anyone have any suggestions for me??? I would really like to try C25K again but don't see how I can do it when power walking gives me shin splints.
Thanks
Thanks

I don't know about where you are but over here (Ireland) a lot of the smaller independent sports shops have the equipment installed. One of my local ones has just a treadmill and a video camera so that they can watch your foot placement on a tv screen with you after and explain all about it. Good running stores would do this. There are running stores in Dublin, one called 'Runways' that do it. I'm not sure that this is helpful, but I bet that there must be a store closer to you than you think.0

Fleet Feet Sports is a nationwide chain. They will videotape your run on a treadmill and have you try on lots of pairs with no pressure to buy. You can check their locations here

DEFINITELY go to a runners store. Just google it for you location. There a ton of factors put into buying a good pair of running shoes. You don't want to hurt your feet or heels or ankles in the long run. Because I'm a beginner in the running world, I had to get a thick, thick padded shoe specifically designed for feet that pronate. That's another thing, for running, you need a shoe that is formatted for the way your ankles buckle in. Pronate, supernate, straight, ect. So, definitely find a runners store0
