after weeks of seeing absolutely no results and kicking my butt working out, i got so frustrated with myself and everything that i decided to take a week off. I took a week off from working out and counting calories. I didn't binge and eat junk food but I still wasn't counting anything. After a week of doing this I was shocked to see that I had lost 2 pounds. By giving my body a break from intense working out and calorie counting I had actually lost weight with no effort. Maybe before I wasn't eating enough and working out too much? Who knows, but I am very pleased with these results!

Read my blog if you have time. I just beat my plateau down as well, and it involved relaxing my calorie restrictions mostly. Also rest is vital, it is so easy to overtrain whcih shuts your body down as well.

    Good for you =)

I found that a break from weight training helped me lose a few pounds too. I was told that muscles swell and body might retain some water so a break allows them to relax and rest. I started my training again and feel good. I give myself a week or two break from weights after a month of training. It seems to work for me... my body likes the change up I guess. Great work on keeping yourself in line during the break!
  • i think my body needed a break too. i've been working out religiously since january and really haven't taken a break. i guess it's true that the "skinner" you get the harder it is to lose weight. i'm thinking about just upping my daily calories more and seeing what happens.

Hmmmm.....I might try your approach. I've been on a 6 week plateau....and so far nothing has worked for me. I've tried upping my calories, zig zagging my calories. I'm on day 22 of the 30DS, and have not lost a single ounce while doing the shred. (And no, the tape measure isn't helping either!) I was forced into taking a few days off last week because I was sick....and that didn't do it either! So, I'm pretty much grasping at straws right now. I am happy for you though! I swear, if the scale ever moves again for me I will be shouting from the mountain tops!

i did something similiar to this like two months ago. i took like two weeks off due to a death in the family. i ended up gaining like three pounds. but when i started to count calories again then i dropped like ten pounds again in a month or so. thats how i broke out of a little plateau. weird lol
  • brenda, the 30 day shred is no joke either! i've been doing turbo fire and i almost feel like i've been over working myself. nothing feels worse than doing all these intense workouts and thinking you're losing and then when you check, nothing is happening. like i said, during this week off i didn't binge on anything but also didn't watch my calories. I really believe that a little break from it all helped me and it's possible that it could help you too!
