Does anyone use the Polar Wear Link HRM with their iPhone? Does it work?

I really really want an HRM, but I don't like having a lot of stuff with me when I run. I use my iPhone for music, and safety, but it's also my GPS. I was seeing that it could be my HRM too. Although I think the Polar is like 80 bucks, so at that point I might as well shell out a little more and get a garmin or something.

I'm not sure what extra you'd have if you got the HRM. You wear the watch to see your readout and the chest strap with transmitter to monitor your HR.

You need the special wearlink chest strap with bluetooth to use it with mobile phones. The strap itself is $80. I toyed with the idea but ended up spending the $80 on the FT7.

True, I guess there wouldn't be too much extra.

If you google Heart Rate Monitor Apps, there's different apps to use it with and I think there might be another bluetooth chest strap out there.

What was a little confusing is I couldn't tell if it the strap communicates directly via bluetooth or if there was a bluetooth transmitter that needed to plug into the phone independently.

If your phone has bluetooth capabilities, which most phones today do, you wont need to plug anything into the phone.

^That's what I figured, there were just some images of some external transmitter thingy so I wasn't sure.

Interesting topic...I don't have an iphone, but will be getting one (hopefully) in the next couple of months...good to know there is an HRM feature w/ a strap.

However w/ the controversy about whether or not cell phones emit radiation from weak cell phone signals, I would be hesitant to carry my iphone so close to my body, especially when working out. I guess it depends on the person and how much they believe the warnings to be true.
