Red-Pepper Flakes
A Dutch study shows that by consuming about half a teaspoon of red pepper 30 minutes prior to a meal, you can reduce calorie intake by 16 percent. Plus, new research shows that the active ingredient capsaicin in hot peppers may help kill cancer cells.

If I'm not mistaken Cajun seasoning (particularly cayenne) acts in a similar way. It enhances the flavors of food b/c of it's irritant quality on your taste buds and actually causes you to eat less over the course of a meal!

I put red pepper flakes in my egg whites to give them some extra umph!
  • Wow, with as much red pepper flakes as I use on all my food, I should stay cancer free.... And if its been helping me consume less calories, I'd hate to see how big I would be without!!! lol

I love spicy food, good to know. I try to stay away from hot sauce since it has so much salt.
