Does anyone here do Bikram Yoga and wear an HRM during class.....and what kind do you use that can stand up to the heat/sweat?

I would really like to see what my actual calorie burn is from that class and i get conflicting info everywhere i look. According to several sites - weighing 120lbs i would burn 812 calories, but i have found blogs with people stating their HRM burns no more than if they were at rest.

I think thats bogus because bikram is super intense, my heart is pounding during most of the asanas. Maybe the calorie burn comes from the work your body has to do to stay in homeostasis in the hot room.

Any thoughts?

Before I got my HRM I thought I was burning badgillions of calories in a one hour session b/c I was literally sweating buckets and was always sore, and estimates I found said around 700-800.

Then I got my HRM and wore it to a few classes and I only got around 350-400. Sort of disappointing.

Nothing beats that after class feeling though, no matter how little calories it burns. (Well, that's not little, just a lot less than what I thought it was ahah)
  • I used a Polar FT4 (A recommendation from a lot of people), and I have to say, I REALLY love it. I used it during a bikram yoga class yesterday and the chest strap and watch are both waterproof up to 30 meters I believe, so you can sweat as much as you want. It will survive. Yesterday, I burned about 450, and my heart rate was around 160 the whole time... very high. It is incredibly intense. I spoke with my instructor, and she said that I would be burning anywhere between 500 and 800 calories a session.
