Annoying?

I am just wondering if all of you that have a significant-ish (i made up that word!) get annoyed with the people on this website that don't need to lose weight or are trying to maintain their current weight? Personally, I feel like IF I had a lot of weight to lose and I saw all these people who don't need to lose any weight complaining/asking questions about weight loss, i'd get annoyed. I am on the maintenance boat and am kind of afraid to ask certain questions or respond to people because I don't want to annoy anyone. I know i'm not the only one in this community that is maintaining weight, etc so i'm just looking for a general consensus! Should I shut up? Haha

I think that maintaining weight or only dropping a few pounds needs as much support as dropping 50. If you needed to lose weight, and finally got to where you wanted to maintain it would be depressing to think you couldn't stay here and get the support you needed. I think people who maintain or don't need to lose much have as much to learn as the person who is overweight. Living healthy is an ongoing battle for every woman. Besides, some people who have lost and are now maintaining have a lot of good info to share.
Remember it was hard to get here for you too and you had a lot to learn like everyone else. Be proud of your accomplishment, that is what you joined for to get to the point you can maintain. If you need info ask, if you can help someone else, even better.
Just my opinion :happy:0 -
It would be a bit selfish for people to respond negatively to this post. These are thoughts that you think but dont say as it is in our nature to be self centered with our own challenges.. Everybody is welcome and everybody has their own struggle whether it is 5 lbs or 50. It is also just as hard to lose as it is to maintain. I've been on for a year, I lost it all ,gained it back and am losing it all again.

People that are maintaining don't annoy me at all, but they also don't usually say things like "I'm 5'5" and weigh 130 lbs! i HAVE to lose 20lbs by december because we are going ona trip and I have to look hot ... blah blah blah" I made that up but you get the point. Deadlines annoy me, innappropriate goals annoy me, and people that make rude comments about being a certain size (for example a loooooooong time ago there was a girl on here that was a size 0, she outright said that anyone over a size 6 was really fat... I still remember that, lol) that annoys me. Other than that, nope, if someone has 5 lbs to lose, hey welcome! 5 lbs is 5 lbs... at some point I will have 5 lbs to lose.... you know? :flowerforyou:0

It never ever bothers me. While I wish I was lucky enough to be to the maintaining phase, I would never get upset.
In fact, I KNOW I can get this weight off, I am just so so so scared about maintaining. I think that will be hard, and it really scares me. Not only is it really unhealthy to yo-yo, but I am working so hard right now to just gain it all again when I hit my goal.0 -

hahaha I always believed 0 shouldn't be a size. If you are a zero, do you really exist???0 -
No, I don't feel that way at all, and you shouldn't either! I get people all the time on here saying, "where is the 17 lbs you need to lose" but really they don't see what I see. I mean, my pictures may look good to them but they don't see me in person to know where the fat really is. Everyone carries their weight differently and sometimes the taller you are the more spread out the fat is, but its still there. Plus, to a lot of people if you have already lost a significant amount of weight you become an inspiration to them, so thats always good! Many people on here are just here to lose a little, while others are here to lose a lot and I think it is all important. Being healthy is the most important though, and thats mainly why I am here. I also love the network of people on here and all the tasty recipes! But don't feel like you are being annoying, for all they we may have lost 100 lbs and are just trying to keep it off.

lol maybe. She was really cute though, just very petite. She wasn't grossly skinny or anything, everyone was just really bothered that she would say that.0 -
I can see why :happy:0

Geez,
That reminds me of my friend Karen, she weighs about 110 and wears size 0-1 and she tries on a pair of pants at Hollister and says that "A fat person must have tried them on because they were stretched out." That made me mad because I wear size 9 and I wouldn't say I am fat. I responded with, "I couldn't even get those pants over one cheek."

I for one would love to hear from people in maintenance mode! i don't know anything about it and am scared to reach that point. I have been successful and losing weight but not at maintaining it... sooo bring on you skinny minis! You are the teacher I am the sponge. Also the lower I get the harder it is to lose so that would be nice to hear about also!:happy:0
-
Yay thanks everyone! This is great to hear! I lost weight (50-60 pounds) through weightwatchers prior to joining the program! I am strictly here to maintain my weight and its great to hear that I am wanted here as much as everyone else0
-
People maintaining weight doesn't bother me at all, BUT people who are 5'9 and weigh 130 and think they are fat DOES bother me. I'm 5'8 and I would kill to weigh even 160.0

the lower you get, it gets harder because your calorie deficit becomes less and less. When someone is 200 pounds, they can usually easily have a daily deficit of 600 calories between maintenance calories and your BRM. Right now, my maintenance calories are 1550 or close to it, my bmr is 1254, maximum deficit I can have per day is 300 calories, so it is going to come off way slower than when i weighed 200 and could have a 600 calorie deficit per day. So at 600 per day, a little over a pound a week, cut down to 300 now down to about half a pound per week, plus 1254 is not enough calories for me I get hungry, therefore not sustainable in reality, so I allow 1350, I just cut another 100 calories so now down to 200 per day, less than half a pound a week. That is the way I look at it anyway, if it helps0 -
oh my goodness-- with all the other things here that can be sooooooooo annoying, you're not even in the annoying ballpark.
To echo everyone else-- whether it's 5 or 50-- we all have our struggles. I have a sister-in-law who struggled all her childhood to gain weight. She hated being called beanpole. The kids who teased her were just as hurtful as the ones who teased me for being fat-- it's all relative.
As long as we remember, again, we're all in the same boat-- no harm, no foul-- right?
Congrats on your loss-- and God bless you in maintenance-- I can't wait to join you. 50 pounds is my goal and I'm inching closer!!!!!!!!0 -
Doesn't bother me--BUT I don't like to hear people who need to lose like 20 pounds or less refer to themselves as "fat," "slob," "horrible," "ugly," or anything similar. I don't like to hear anyone refer to themselves like that
For one, no one should talk like that or think like that about themselves. Everyone is made good and beautiful and should realize that their worth as a person is not dependent upon how much they weigh.
Second, it can make those of us who do have a lot to lose feel bad to hear someone with just a little to lose refer to themselves as such--I mean, come on, what would you call me if you call yourself that when I originally had 139 pounds to lose??? But that's how I feel personally and can't speak for others.0 -

Darling your fabulous!
I agree that maintaining is just as hard as losing weight! Of course you need support and that's what this place is about!
Granted, things could get annoying as some of the others mentioned above in some fabulously interesting examples... If an individual had a warped sense of things....if that makes sense? Oh, or if they ask the same thing over and over and over again....not so much cause they forget....but because they are hoping for a different answer that supports their mentality (even if it's out of whack). :grumble: Now THAT is annoying.0 -

Amen, Shore! I couldn't agree with you more about people calling themselves names. :flowerforyou:0 -

Right on - what makes MFP such a great place is that everyone IS so supportive! And I do understand the gun-shy feeling you might have. There are environments where your success at weight loss could cause others to react negatively, or even try to sabotage it!! But on MFP, we have a community where everyone has the same goal of being as healthy as they can - and living a lifestyle that focuses on health, not just appearance, and I really love that!
So ALL the best on the maintenance, cuz' that's hard, too.0
