IBS & PCOS

I have to apologize in advance for TMI!
Before I joined MFP and Curves I suffered from severe IBS and found no relief anywhere. I would go weeks at a time without going. I know that constipation goes along with my PCOS battle but this was serious. I finally went to the dr after months of pain and extreme bloating (looking like I was 6 months preg was not exactly how I wanted to look) My previous dr diagnosed me with IBS and told me just eat healthier. Ok that did NOT relieve my symptoms at all. So 3 months later, with no help from this dr, I changed drs. This is when I was officially diagnosed with PCOS and was placed on Metformin. I quickly saw a change in my bathroom visits (once every few weeks to 6 times a day) At this point I am ready to pull my hair out! My new dr advised me that I should be seeing a change in that after my body adjusts to the Metformin. Then again constipation, once a week! So I joined Curves and 2 days later joined MFP and 43 days later a huge sigh of relief! I now go "normally" for the first time in over a year!

  • I had the exact same issues with my PCOS and IBS. I still have issues with both, due to the fact that I could not take metformin. But the dieting and working out has done wonders. ESP since I cut back on the diet drinks. Doc said that made it worse. And boy was he right. LOL!!!! Good luck on your journey.

Thank you and good luck to you! The only times I really have a bad day with it is when I drink Diet Dr Pepper! My fav but I only allow myself to have 1 a month.

Glad to hear you're feeling better! I don't have PCOS, but I did have IBS for a long time. Horrible! Turns out, I am gluten intolerant! (I was checked for Celiac, but it's negative). And wouldn't you know... my symptoms started when we started to eat "healthier" by only buying whole wheat pasta, crackers, bread, etc.

I had no idea until one day I had to go home from work because I was so sick and dizzy, had to literally lie on the couch for 4 days, and started re-introducing foods one at a time. I didn't put two and two together until then. Now that I'm gluten free, I no longer look 4 months pregnant after a meal! I can eat regular potato bread on a sandwich, but that's about it. Pasta and pizza dough are my real killers. Stops up my system for days. There are good gf substitutions for those, thankfully. Something to consider if you keep having problems.
