Anyone with diabetes?

Hi I've been trying to lose weight for awhile, but I keep packing on pounds, despite exercise. Well, I've been thinking that with all my health issues, and no one knowing the cause, I'd try to look up all my symptoms. I'm surprised my doctor's haven't thought of it yet, but everything points to diabetes. Does anyone with diabetes have issues losing weight? Do you need to take something for it to help relieve the symptoms?

Hi i am type2, i havent had any problems losing weight. What are your symptoms?0
-
yes i have trauma induced type 2.....get regular blood work every 3 months.....a simple glucose test can be done to determine if you are .
early detection and treatment is key. i have been type 2 since july 2004. do yourself a big favor....do the test a.s.a.p.0 -
Check your symptoms with a gynecologist too. Sometimes they are more likely to test thyroid and a few other things before your family doc will take notice. Sometimes with women, it just works that way (to go around the family doc with a specialist). Good luck.0

What are your symptoms? It's an easy blood test to find out--and I agree about getting your thyroid tested.0

One can cause the other. I have what they call "Syndrome X". Being overweight has caused, high BP, high cholesterol and high blood sugar. I've lost the first 80lbs and all 3 have gotten better. Insulin resistance will make it harder to lose weight.0

I get nauseous a lot, and I get very lightheaded to the point of fainting. I can't hold much down anymore because I throw up a lot from the nausea, and I'm constantly thirsty and having to go to the bathroom. I also don't heal very quickly if I get a cut or scrape (usually lasts a few months for a simple cut from a piece of paper). And despite exercising, I've had unexpected weight gain not related to pregnancy and eating. I'm also always tired despite getting enough sleep at night. Also, I get frequent headaches. So, I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but it sounds like diabetes to me. My uncle has it, so it wouldn't be surprising if I do have it.0

I'm not sure if nausea is always a symptom of diabetes, but some of the other things you've mentioned could be undiagnosed Type 2. You should talk to a doctor about getting tested; if you are diabetic, the sooner you get diagnosed and can bring your blood sugar down to normal levels, the better your health will be. Best of luck to you!0

It sounds very much like diabetes. If you haven't been officially diagnosed, please go to the hospital and get your glucose checked. I had those same symptoms and it quickly led to DKA + acute pancreatitis = diabetic coma + severely decreased insulin production. I was hospitalized for 9 days. It's not exactly the kind of diagnosis anyone should have.

With your symptoms you may already be experiencing DKA.

PLEASE GET CHECKED!
The symptoms of an episode of diabetic ketoacidosis usually evolve over the period of about 24 hours. Predominant symptoms are nausea and vomiting, pronounced thirst, excessive urine production and abdominal pain that may be severe0 -
i got tested regularly, with all your symptoms, for over 7 yrs, as i couldnt understand y i felt so awful...each simple fasting glucose test came back normal...cut to 2007, i collapse with blood clots on my lungs-apparently very close to leaving this planet too, and was asked.."so, how long have you been diabetic??", replied i wasnt, and had been tested reg for over 5 yrs- nope said the specialist, u have been diabetic for about 5 yrs now!!- simple test not conclusive-fasting make all the symptoms disappear- hba1c test shows the last 3 months, but they dont do that till you are diagnosed!!!
my advice, if you dont get diagnosed is this, try to cut out most of the carbs, eat lots of veg, protein, and fruit..lots of fish is good too. that should stop the nausea. and the feeling shaky. is your weight round your middle more than anywhere, in other words like an apple shape? is more than likely if really not diabetic now, you will be, so keep up the healthy eating, and excercise...hope you find this useful, it is only my personal belief.

^^^ +1
I had to BEG my Doctor to do an A1c, he said I wasn't diabetic or I would be thin!0 -
My weight is ENTIRELY in my middle! I can't get rid of the spare tire going around, and it's mostly right under my belly button that the spare weight is on. Despite the fact that I exercise a lot (mountain biking and swimming, walking my dog, lifting weights, and now adding in Jillian Michaels DVDs) the spare tire won't go away.0

Ok, you need to see a dr. The fact that you're thirsty and going to the bathroom a lot is symptomatic of Type I diabetes BUT it usually ialso has constant hunger while LOSING weight. But type II diabetes is usually associated with weight gain. I have insulin resistance and if I eat too many carbs my blood sugar spikes, my body produces too much insulin and then my blood sugar drops. That will cause the symptoms nausea, sweating. I put on 40lbs over 3 years and that's when the drs started doing all kinds of testing for diabetes, thyroid issues, other homonal issues. That's why you need a good dr to start testing to see what's going on with you. Another aspect might be that you feel your blood sugar dropping, get nervous and then hyperventilate. I used to have panic disorder and it was very hard for me to tell the difference between a panic attack and my BS dropping. My dr finally told me to eat something and sit with my hands over my face and breathe(a not so obvious way of simulating the brown paper bag effect.) I hated that he was right about me hyperventilating. But my BS was dropping also and I was making the symptoms worse and not recovering as fast. Get to a doc and good luck.0

Thank you! I'll be sure to set up an appointment ASAP. I knew about the anxiety, but I've had that for several years, and it's a lot better than it used to be....but I honestly believe I have diabetes. It seems like it, especially since last year, I've gained 40 pounds despite good diet and exercise.0
