What does closed group mean?

sorry... maybe a silly question but I'm wondering what it means on here when someone puts a group is closed. Does that mean I am not supposed to comment on those posts, or is it some kind of personal group of friends?? Thanks for the info!!

    it is a challenge group that isn't looking for new members.

    I wonder if it means more than that. I joined the Twilight challenge a while back and it's been closed for 2 weeks now, but the challenge isn't supposed to end until November. I thought maybe it was either closed by the "watcher" or the initiator of the group for whatever reason.
