Recently I read on the board that you can lose weight if you eat foods with low carbs. I'm not in a situation when I am the one buying my food, so I was wondering if anyone had tips of what to eatso I can make do and try to get out of a weight loss rut lol

I lost my first 75lbs. doing low carbs, but low carbs=little to no energy. So make sure you get around 50 carbs a day minimum but don't expect to do any really prolonged high impact exercises. I'm a runner, and had to give up on the lower carb (I still try to keep mine under 100 a day since carbs mess with my weight since diabetes runs in the family and I'm still medically at risk for them) since I had no energy.
Here are low carb foods I love:
Blue Diamond Almond Milk
Nuts
all green veggies (these are good carbs)
cheese (string, mozzarella - I love Sargento Naturals they are zero carbs and and only 60 calories a slice)
cottage cheese
lean protein (I love Trident Seafoods Salmon patties and plain shrimp)0 -
Try Japanese Tofu in combination with Miso-soup; great taste and über-healthy..0

Your body will get spikes of instant energy from carbs. But if you don't use that energy right away, it gets stored as fat pretty quickly. Which is why a lot of people only eat carbs right before a workout and avoid them at other times.
The rest of the time, if you're sitting in front of a computer or something, you don't need energy spikes. Just steady, slow-burning energy. Your body can get that by burning fat & protein. Many people who've tried low-carb haven't been able to sustain it because they didn't eat enough protein. The chemical reaction involved is 3 parts fat to 1 part protein. So your body will harvest the fat from your cells, which is good, that's what you want. But you don't want it harvesting the protein from your muscles! I am hyperinsulinemic, and my doctor has me eating no more than 30g carbs a day, but he tells me to eat at least 50g protein every 3 hours to keep my metabolism burning steadily. Now, that's pretty extreme, 'cause my body just can't handle carbs. So just find the ratio that works for you, but don't let anyone tell you that low-carb is unhealthy or unsustainable.
If you're avoiding carbs, avoid anything with grains or rice, any starchy veggies like corn or potatoes, and anything containing sugar or corn syrup. That's the basic rule right there.
If you want to go even further, limit your fruits, especially really sweet ones. Limit veggies that are sweet, too, like peas, tomatoes, carrots & yams. Stick to veggies like broccoli, mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower.
Avoid dairy that contains sugar, like milk and most nonfat or lowfat yogurts (they take out the fat but then add sugar!).
I eat a lot of cheeses, cottage cheese, hard-boiled eggs, fish, shrimp, grilled chicken, pork chops, steak & hamburger. Nuts like almonds are pretty good, too.
Things to watch: sauces & dressings. They often have sugar and/or flour. Order your burgers with no bun & no ketchup.
Also: breading on fried stuff. Low-carb diets don't have any problem with fried stuff, per se, but a lot of the stuff you get that's fried will also be covered in breadcrumbs / breading so you're getting a bunch of extra carbs.
Everyone's body is different, so just figure out what works for you. Best of luck!0
