What are the best fitness classes?

Hi,

I'm new to My Fitness Pal, but have been going to the gym/dieting for a few months now. Before November last year I had never been a member of a gym, and had never even been to a fitness class. Now I can't live without them!

I tend to do Body Combat, Body Jam (like an extreme dance class basically) and Body Conditioning classes. Occasionally I'll do a core stability class but I've been finding the technique quite difficult to perfect. I don't use the gym equipment very often, as I find taking part in a class much more motivating and easier to make myself get to the gym for.

I love all these classes and go to them about 4/5 times a week, but I was wondering what were the best classes for weight loss?

I've obviously become more fit and lost a bit of weight since starting, but I've heard that doing too much cardio can make you put on weight? And I don't know if conditioning/strength+toning classes really help with weight loss.

Any suggestions for other classes to go to? Or what kind of combination of classes I should do for the best results?

This is my first post, and I'd love a bit of advice!

You could also add in Body Pump which is a weight lifting class and continue on with the core classes..they are difficult to perfect because you are working new muscles. If it is hard to do...that's great..when it becomes easy..that's when you need to change.
I would make sure you do different types of cardio...not just one type all the time..this will give you cross training. I also LOVE classes..they are so fun and everyone's camaredie is amazing! You could also try some spinning classes and maybe once in awhile do a gym workout for something different. You could also do a difficult yoga that will keep you sweating..this is a full body workout. Just keep channging..that's the key. And HAVE FUN! WOO HOO!
  • I like BodyPump, although the pain I'm always in the next day does tend to put me off a bit haha. Core Stability classes at my gym involve that big bouncy ball that you sit on and do sit-ups from etc, it's the balance and technique of that which I find hard.

I've tried zumba a number of times, but I used to be a dancer when I was younger, so I find it a bit too easy sometimes, and tend to get a bit complacent during the classes as the moves are quite simple.

I'll deffo try some Yoga soon though, I've not looked into it properly, but if there are difficult yoga classes that get you sweating then I'll give them a try!!!

    Thanks guys.

My two favorites are Zumba and Spin they both get me sweating, heart pumping, and of course give me an amazing cardio high.

Look for Power Yoga...I sweat like a champ in that class..hands sliding everywhere (and no this is not Bikram with the heated room lol)
