I want ROCKING arms!! However, I don't want "man" shoulders. You know, the part between your shoulder and neck...However, every time I work my arms, my shoulders are so engaged! Can anyone tell me that even though that happens, my neck/shoulders won't look like a man? I want a slender neckline and super muscular arms....What do you think?

You won't look like a man - you're missing a key ingredient .... and that is testosterone. Since women have so much estrogen in them - it prevents our muscles from bulking up like a guys would do. Unless you are taking supplements, you'll be fine. My arms and shoulders are very defined, but they do not look bulky. They just look toned. I've been told I have fabulous arms. (No jiggle here! lol).

What arm work are you doing? Biceps curl and triceps dips should give you the look you're after!

what chevy said... women aren't built to look like men.. different body structure and different hormones... so keep up what you're doing.
  • I was just going to say the above:) I work really hard with weights and my shoulders are defined but not big.

I don't quite know which part you mean between the shoulders and neck, but when you work out a specific body part it's going to get engaged and pumped a bit - it happens with everyone.
It doesn't last though :) You won't start looking like a man unless you eat ALOT and train alot for that exact goal. Even then you would probably need a little extra "help". Women don't have the testosterone that a man has in order to build lots of muscle and look like a man.
Keep training and you will get to your goal, if you think they're turning out a bit too "man like" in that area you can cut back on the shoulders workouts a bit, although IMO it might look a bit odd if you don't train them evenly. Also, to get the muscle showing quite a bit anywhere (such as the arms) you will need to reduce body fat if it's not already (you probably know that though)

Good luck with getting to your goals :-)

The key is to work both the front and back muscles equally. If you work opposing muscle groups you should get a lean look. If you over work your trapezious muscles then you could create an over exaggerated look across the back of your shoulders.

I lift my young ones for an arm/ab workout and really pump the elliptical (half upper half lower body workout!). My arms look pretty nice, and I don't have the issue of havig super huge muscles there... Unless I'm stressed, lol.
