So, I made a brown rice dish, with golden raisins... Very high in carbs! What's the difference between good and bad carbs?? I think I am getting them confused. I know brown rice and whole grain whole wheat etc are "better" carbs than white, but why so high still?

And here we go.
The carbs in white and brown rice are the same. They're both 4kcal per gram. The measurements of calories is based on the grams of rice, not on whether one is supposedly better for you or not. The same goes for carbs from fruit, ice cream or anything else. They are all 4kcal per gram.
Many people here will tell you that white rice spikes your insulin and makes you fat, blah blah blah. What they fail to realize is that when mixed with other foods, especially anything containing protein, the insulin response from foods like white rice, or any simple carb, is completely different than when eating the rice by itself.
As long as you're getting your daily vitamin, mineral and fiber requirements met, there is absolutely NO reason to worry about white rice being bad for you and brown rice being good for you. Yes, brown rice has more fiber. Big deal. Mix some veggies in your white rice and you're set.
Most importantly, don't over-think it. Eat your food, log your calories and enjoy your life.0 -
Thanks, I keep getting mixed information about carbs and this is exactly what I needed to hear. I am focusing on more protein and like you said, just logging in and counting. Thanks:)0

Just read that brown rice should be stored refrigerated. Does anybody do that?
