Calling all girls who like to box

The past couple of years I've become interested in boxing. So far my only experience has been boxing games on the Wii. I would love to actually take it up. I don't know anyone that actually boxes. I would love to hear from some ladies that do. How did you get started? What did you need to get started in terms of equipment? How self-conscious were you at first? How "fit" do you have to be to start? Do you recommend getting a bag and starting at home first or signing up for a gym/trainer first? There are a few boxing gyms close to my house that I've looked at but I've never been daring enough to actually go inside. Any and all comments welcome! Thanks!

I don't do boxing, but as far as exercise goes...I love taking Body Combat and Kickboxing at my local gym! :)

I am definitely curious if you get any good responses! I am a basement boxer. I have my own punching bag and i have a couple 20 minute routines that I created to do in my basement. I LOVE it - great stress reliever, however also VERY exhausting. It took me a while to get up to a 20 minute routine. Still love it! Good luck to you! I'd love to hear how it goes!

I HAD TO BOX WHEN GROWING UP BECAUSE MY DAD FORCED MY YOUNGER BROTHER AND ME TO DO IT. LIKE ANOTHER REPLY YOU GOT, I AM A BASEMENT BOXER NOW. OH GIRL PLEASE GO ON AND SIGN UP AT THAT GYM FOR THE BOXING CLASS IF YOU CAN DO IT. ITS TRAINING, YOU WILL LEARN. AS FOR HOW GOOD A SHAPE YOU HAVE TO BE IN - PEOPLE DO IT A LOT TO GET IN SHAPE, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE IN SHAPE. TRAINING YOURSELF AT HOME WILL BE FUN BUT YOU SOUND SERIOUS SO A CLASS MAY DO YOU A LOT OF GOOD. I LIKE TO SHADOW BOX TO MUSIC ALSO.

Thanks for the responses ladies! My hubby and I would really like to get a heavy bag in the basement. I might start with that (once we finish remodeling the basement). Thank you!
