Ankle Weights?

I work in Pizza Hut in the kitchen, so I'm walking around for 5-6 hours a day and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about ankle weights?
Do they help tone leg muscles?
What's the best weight to start with? [I'm quite strong and used to use 2lb wieghts in the gym for my arms]
Is there anywhere where I can get decent ones fairly cheap?
Any help will be very much appreciated =]

So, you are going to be wearing them for an extended period of time? I would personally get the lightest weight available then and use it basically for endurance.
I use them when I want to do some inner or outer thigh exercises at home, and it's just like any other resistance work, it will tone the muscles.
I've also used them to walk around to build up calf strength. Last year I broke my big toe in 2 places which caused me to not be able to walk for nearly a month (oddly enough that is when I joined this site!). When I was finally healed and cleared by the doctor to start working out again, I noticed that the lack of movement had really weakened the calves. So I walked around the house with them on and built up the strength so I didn't twist them over while walking/running (which I was very prone to do, unfortunately).
As far as cheap, I know that Wal-Mart and Target sells them, so that's probably the best bet for lowest price.0 -
I got mine at Walmart. I have horrible wrists so I actually use them instead of hand weights. I have the Golds Gym brand and I really like them. I recommend starting with a low weight and going up if you think you can take it. Mine are adjustable, so I'm starting slow and going up.0

Thanks guys, unfortunately I'm in England so Wal-mart isn't an option.0
