How often do ya'll cheat and does it really affect my weight loss if I am cheating 1 - 3 times a week. ie., wine or treats?

What are your suggestions b/c I am feeling really defeated today and this last weekend, but at the sametime need to get back on the bandwagon and get serious??? I just don't know if I am cheating to much and if I should set some goals to be more serious....everyone on here has lost so much weight and I am still stuck, not budging and not losing these last 12 pounds......

HELP????? Please send your suggestions my way....

  • It depends what you mean by "cheating". Technically, you should be able to have wine or treats, but you need to budget your calories to make it work.

I have cheat days about once every two weeks. These are high calorie days for me and I let myself go over on my cals. Partly to keep my metabolism running and partly b/c I want to! I can't say it has worked as well as I hoped, but it does help keep me on track.

If I cheat, I am sure to exercise more. The only time I cheat is when I can't find an alternate - like eating out with a group or at a catered event. I am really strict but it's paying off - I've lost 27 pounds since Sep 1 but remember I have a lot to lose. This works for me - not saying it's right for you too.

remember when you get to the last 10 -12, it take a lot longer to lose because your calorie deficit can't be as large as it was when you had more to lose. You are now looking at a deficit of about 250 per day instead of 500 to 600 per day. Any more than that puts you into starvation mode. Give yourself a pep talk, you know you are doing it right, it will happen. A treat every now and then or going over once in a while, will not kill you, but it will take even longer, I look at those days as maintenance, not really losing but not gaining.

 I have a cheat day once a week. My husband and I go out for dinner and I order what I want. The thing is, I often end up eating something healthy because I've worked so hard to get where I'm at that I don't want to mess it up by pigging out. I usually log my meals the night before I eat them so I have a pretty good idea what I can eat when I go out for dinner. So I guess in a way I'm really not cheating am I?
  • Well, that kind of sounds like me, except I am cheating about 1 - 2 x per week. I'll have a couple glasses of wine, or some treats like choco or maybe just go over my calories by a couple hundred. I am just really frustrated, I can not seem to lost this weight or go down in a dress size. I am going to the gym 5 days per week. I bought this book "A womans guide to weight training" by HERS, and am following it religiously. I have cut my calories down tremendously from where they were before and am eating about 1350 a day. I did talk to my psych and am cutting my lexapro mg in half to see if that's why I am not losing like I should.....

    SO FRUSTRATED I COULD SCREAM.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Wow, you all responded so fast, there was only 1 reply....so maybe after reading all of your blogs maybe I am cheating WAY TOO MUCH......

relax, it took me 4 months to lose 8 pounds, but is it off and is staying off (might even be 9 now, I hate the scale), my clothes are fitting and I feel great.

    Don't give up.
  • I will try, thank you, having a moment I guess.....but that moment has stretched into all weekend and today....HUGE pity party......

I will snap out of it and get going....heading to the gym in a few minutes.....

One question, how fast do you think you should be losing?

i think we all cheat at least once a week. I usually let Saturday be my cheat day. I don't log in because I usually don't have time. The last few weeks I haven't been home on the weekend. This weekend we will be home and my husband asked me if we were just going to chill and I told him that sounded like a great idea. The next 3 weekends after this weekend will be a whirl wind with my birthday, Thanksgiving and then Vegas. And in that order. Oh the humanity !

    Everything in moderation.
I have days when I splurge a little, but I don't fly off the edge and lose all control. I still record most of my food. I don't have "cheat" days...I have days I don't eat as healthy, but it's not cheating...it's making a choice to eat stuff not so good for me. Don't eliminate things out of your lifestyle change that you can't live without. That's my attitude at least.

The thing to keep in mind is that.... a few hundred over your calorie intake, well....that's not far from at least maintaining. So if you want results you can't be going over by a couple hundred much.
  • In response to "How much do you think you should be losing..." well, I don't know maybe 2 pounds a month even 1 would be nice....I haven't budged for about 4 months.....nothing, nada, zip....

that's why I probably should admit that I am cheating way toooo much.....

    What do ya'll think....

    I'd say yes.
As I said above... a few hundred over a few times a week... that is gonna show up somewhere.
