Fatty - Treat thyself

I love the FAQ section.

Why? Insomnia? Well, yes - but that's not the reason. Everyone gets stalled, the dreaded plateau. And, I've been enjoying one for most of a month. So, instead of whining, stomping my feet and holding my breath - I read the FAQ section at the top of the page.

And, guess what - I think I have discovered what I was doing wrong.

I got my calories, and I'm hitting the treadmill at 4:30am every morning (straining shoulder to pat myself on the back). I'm living by the motto "If you bite it, write it", I'm usually within 100 calories of my goal every day; and I'm eating back my exercise calories.

So, what is going on? Why am I not seeing my weight drop like a Prom Dress?

Bless the folk who have posted their wisdom in the FAQ. I had my weight loss set at 1.5lbs/wk in my profile - and while this was realistic at my heaviest - I fear I may have put myself into starvation mode (yeah - at 2,000 Calories/day; 281 lbs and 5'11" - I wasn't getting enough calories).

Fix? Change weigth loss target to 1 lb/wk - eat my exercise calories and enjoy an extra 550 calories per day.

So - is this correct? The proverbial 'Eat more, and lose more'? Or am I doing something else wrong?

I'm sorry to say this my friend, but if you want to see some pounds go down, you have to eat between 1300-1400 calories per day and I would suggest to not eat your exercise calories. And something else,,,,,lots of water, water is the key to keep yourself full when you are hungry. Best of luck to you :-)

Just had a quick flick through your diary and your are eating a lot of processed foods which may contain alot of sodium you may want to try eating more clean foods.. Also if you like to eat your exercise calories you may want to set you weight loss goal for 2lbs a week as you maybe finding that your one of those people that cant eat their exercise calories back and still lose. Also as said above water water water! you dont need to be excessive but it does help trying to replace other drinks with water. You may find you have to try a few different options before you find what works best for you, but i do think going over 2000 cals is too much.

That's 500-600 Calories off the MFP goal of 2,000 calories; and the 2,000 calories was based off of a planned 5,200 calorie/week deficit (1.5 lbs/week). My BMR is 2,156 calories per day. That would land me square in Starvatoin Mode - where I'm sitting right now.

You're right, if you don't eat enough your weight loss your weight loss will stall. Use MFP as designed - go for the 1lb a week weight loss it recommends, eat back most of your exercise calories, and it'll start coming off again like magic. Several of my MFP friends, myself included, will attest to this. Good luck!

Yep, I'm one of them! It's working for me; I stalled, so changed from 2lbs a week to 1lb, upped my cals, and now the weight is coming off again. I don't always eat back all my exercise cals but I often eat back about half of them. Seems to work for me...so far!

Good luck with your journey - remember, you have to do what's right for *you*, not what other people tell you is right (or wrong). What works for me might not work for you, and vice-versa! Part of the fun and fascination of this I find, is experimenting...I love finding out what works for my body and what doesn't!

Congrats on your loss so far! xx

Read the posts I indicated; Knowledge is a GOOD thing.

If your body senses that the energy being expended is larger than what it is consuming; your body will enter 'Starvation Mode'; this is a mode in which your metabolism slows, and your weight loss becomes minimal. I suggest you read up on it - you might just learn something.
