Was talking with my friend this morning about weight and body fat and we were wondering what everyone else's experiences are. Here's ours:
He lost 17# and 4.5% body fat. (he was 187, and is now about 170)
He would like to lose another 5.5% to get down to 10-11%
I lost (total, over about 2 years) 80# and 13% body fat. (I was 218 and am now 138)
I would like to lose another 1-2% to get down to about 15-16%
What about YOU all out there?
How much have you lost?
What do you think is a "normal" ratio to lose? (# to %)
In your (Humble) opinion, what is an ideal percentage?

I'm still at 125 (after the past few days I've had, I'm rather surprised), but I have NO idea what my body fat is these days - hopefully better than when I started out (23%- eegads!)0

Ok, so I'm the friend Tracy was talking to about body fat %. Here's my story. Not having known what my body fat % was the last time I was thin, I just picked an arbitrary goal weight to reach (based on the crappy BMI standards). My real goal is to get down to 11% body fat. But as I'm getting closer to my goal weight, I'm noticing that my body fat % isn't going down as much. I don't really wanna get stick figure thin to reach 11% body fat though.
So I was wondering what other people's bf % to lbs lost ratio was so I can kinda gauge where I should be. I've kinda been putting off a healthier diet in favor of just counting calories just to simplify right now. But maybe I need to get on that sooner than later.
Also, is the lack of responses to in this thread an indicator that not too many people even care about their body fat %? Is it only about lbs lost? What's up?0 -
I've lost 30 lbs so far and 11.44% BF.
I'm hoping to lose an additional 6.5% BF, bringing me to 20%. If I maintain ALL of my current LBM, that will bring me to goal at 144lbs, though from past experience I expect to be closer to 140.
Current weight: 156.2
Current BF%: 26.56% (as of 7/20/11)0 -

If you know your LBM (and don't want to lose any) and your goal BF%... Your goal weight can be calculated: LBM / (1-BF as decimal) = Goal weight.
Using myself as an example. Current LBM is ~115 lbs. Goal BF is 20%. 115 / (1 - 0.20) = 143.750 -

Sweet! Thanks for the tip!0 -
Ok, so there's gotta be more to it. I calculated LBM as body weight (166) x body fat % (.165) = body fat in weight (27.39). Then deducted body fat in weight from total body weight, that gives me 138.61 lbs. That so can't be right. I'm a stick figure at 145, and I was hoping for a GW of around 155 w/muscle mass. Thoughts?0

LBM / (1-BF%) = GW
138.61 / (1 - 0.11) = 155.750 -
Ah, was missing the last step. Thanks! This helps a lot.0

According to most BMI charts, I have 29% body fat.
I can tell you right now, that I'm not going to go too low, as a woman, on the body fat. I am very curvy by nature, and women start to have reproductive problems if they are underweight.
However, I have a LONG way to go before that happens.
Right now I'm 162lbs at 5'2". Eventually, I'd like to be 120-130lbs. That might seem high for someone my height, but I think that amount looks and feels best on me.0 -

I'm 5' 3.75 and only aiming for 140ish. I have hips and boobs that aren't going to go away, even at 20% bodyfat. You have to be quite a bit lower than that to have reproductive issues.0
