I'm drastically under in my Cholesterol, from what MFP recommends, is this something I should try to change? I try to get as close as I can to daily recommendations but cholesterol is usually way under. Yesterday, for example, I only had 10 mg (with 300 mg recommended).

It's probably not something that I should try to increase, but I just wanted to see if anyone had an opinion.

Thanks!

I try and keep cholesterol low as well. I'm not expert though.

As long as you are getting an adequate amount of "GOOD" fat, you don't need that pesky cholesterol for anything. That is definitely a maximum reccomendation as oppossed to fiber or protein which are minimums.

I have high cholestrol and I purposely set it to a lower setting because I know it is a problem for me. However, if you do not have cholestrol issues I am not sure. I would assume lower is better, also not an expert.

definitly listen to this! having only 10mg of cholesteral is great, but make sure your still getting enough mono and polysaturated fats those are the good ones.

Dietary cholesterol has no negative impact on serum cholesterol, though it can improve HDL levels. This is the case with naturally occurring cholesterol, oxidized cholesterol on the other hand, does have negative effects that can increase triglycerides and LDL levels. Oxidized cholesterol exists in any products that have hydrogenized ingredients, such as vegetable oils.

Saturated fats also show a positive influence on HDL levels.

I'd just check with your doctor. My doc wants my daily cholesterol to be significantly lower than the default value here. On the flip side, she recommended a higher sugar intake. Check in to see what's best under *your* circumstances, and good luck.

    No.

Cholesterol plays a very important role in the production of testosterone. This is VERY important for males and it's also important for females as a balance for estrogen. Saying you don't need "pesky cholesterol" is completely off the mark.

Thanks, Rangersteve! That article was helpful. It says, "However, because your body is able to synthesize enough cholesterol to meet its needs, no amount of cholesterol is required in your diet, and eating too much can increase your risk of heart disease." So I guess I don't need to worry about it!

    Thanks everyone!

This is the point I was trying to get at. Sorry if my choice of wording offended. According to my doc when it comes to cholesterol, there is rarely EVER a need to supplement. I absolutely agree with everyone who says to check with your own doctor for your own set of circumstances though. As far as good cholesterol goes...... exercise is the best medicine by far according to my doc and everything I've read on the subject. Then again, like everyone else.....I'm just responding to a request for opinions and I'm no expert. Good luck with your health journey.
