First Cleanse??

Just picked up this product at Walgreens because it was free (after you send in a rebate form). I've never done a cleanse before. I have been pretty successful with my slow and steady weight loss. But at the same time, I'd love to be healthier, and it wouldn't hurt to lose a pound or 2.

Do you have any thoughts on a cleanse, and specifically if anyone has used this product? Some of the reviews on Amazon were pretty bad.

Thanks!

Cleanses are completely unnecessary and should only be used under doctor's orders (typically in preparation for certain medical screenings/procedures). Your body is designed to cleanse itself - that's what the liver, kidneys and digestive system does. Eat a healthy diet, lots of fiber, and drink lots of water and you'll have no need for any "cleanse".

Here's a recent article discussing cleanses - it mentions both the colon irrigation and the type of cleanses that you bought (from the store/out of the box stuff).

Thank you for the article. Very informative. I'm second guessing my "free" product.

  • I'm doing a cleanse right now and have done then before. I don't do them to "lose weight", I do them to eliminate the toxins that my body picks up in the world. Everyone will have an opinion as is their right but it's only an opinion. For every negative article, I could find a positive one. I don't know much about this particular cleanse but the one I'm doing is with natural supplements. A few of the ingredients are Fennel, milk thistle, artichoke, dandelion, cranberry, etc.

Diedra- Mine has many of the same ingredients. I'm afraid to end up constipated or the terrible opposite (ha!).
  • haha! I know what you mean, play with the dosage then. Mine is 4 pills in the morning and 4 at dinner. If 4 proves to be too much, I'll cut it down to 3, etc. Each person responds differently. Feel free to check out my food tracker for tomorrow and tomorrow (I pretracked) to see what I'm eating also. I am following a loose version of the diet plan provided with my cleanse. Hope that helps!

I edited to say that I read several reviews online a moment ago, they weren't awful. But it does seem constipation is a problem so keep a close eye on it and take some fiber supplements if you need to!

Just a thought - if *constipation* is a possible side effect for a cleanse - which is supposed to do the opposite of constipating you (in the sense that it's supposed to cleanse things out of you)... how can that really be a good thing?

Seriously - the only help your body needs is to drink enough water, eat mostly healthy foods with enough fiber and get enough sleep. As long as you take care of your body, your body will do any cleansing it needs by itself.
