Socks or no socks

for most of my runs I go sockless. But with a 1/2 iron coming up I keep getting blisters on my feet on long runs. Over the weekend I went with socks and had blisters within 3 miles.

Looking for your 2 cents worth, Thanks

Are you using moisture wicking athletic socks? I've never gotten a blister from running. I get socks with very cushioned bottoms, and my feet have never been happier. Still have all my toenails, too.

I've gotten blisters from walking around in ridiculously high 5" stilettos, sure, but not from running.

Yes, wear socks. Go to a running store and buy some good athletic socks. Also make sure your shoes are the correct fit at the running store. Usually your running shoes should be at least a half size if not a full size larger then what you normally wear.

I always wear socks, but I also am not a long distance runner. Currently training for my 1st 5K  .

I've run with and without. Mostly based on what I felt like. I've gotten blisters in socks as well as barefoot. Is your foot maybe moving excessively in the shoe?

quality moisture wicking socks made for running long distances. These aren't cheap but you should get some.

Try rubbing deoderant (the sort that decreases sweating) on your feet so they don't get so damp.

Wear two pairs of thinner socks or get double layer socks (like Wright brand). It gets rid of the friction.

Not a long distance runner, yet, but am a long distance hiker. I wear two pairs of socks hiking to prevent the rubbing. A tight liner and then a regular hiking sock. Not sure how I'd like it running ough. Other thought is moleskin (or duct tape) on your hot spots...

is the transition time the real question here? moisture wicking socks? lube your feet! lube inside your shoes! try to tie your shoe different, or even different shoes.

dang, that sucks... are your shoes too big/tied loose? I have to wear socks and tie my shoes tight because if not, i get blisters as well.

i found this anti-friction stick that you rubbed on before running and it really helped prevent the back of my ankle from bleeding as well as the blisters.

I only run in Wright socks since I discovered them. The double layer really really does reduce friction and minimize blistering. I think at a certain point, blisters may be inevitable but I've done 1/2 marathons in Wright socks and have never had a blister in them. I've also had good success with the Injinji toe socks.

That being said, I do short runs in my Vibrams sans socks
