Hello my name is Sami and I am allergic to soy peanuts beans *except black beans pintos and kindey* split and black eyed peas and I have a dairy nut and garlic intolerance. Just in this last month my garlic intolerance has turned into a full blown allergy. I feel alone and over whelmed. I have never met anyone with as many food restraints as myself and I was just wondering if you are like me out there reading this. How are you making this work.

  • Hey :) I'm allergic to Nuts as well! I don't find it very hard at all but I can understand how it would be. My cousin is allergic to milk, soy, nuts, eggs, wheat etc. I can only imagine her trying to eat to lose weight :(

I am allergic to wheat, soy, dairy, MSG, and recently: corn. Yes, corn. I am also intolerant to other grains (like buckwheat, spelt, rice, etc.) and yeast. I eat a paleo style diet and have to be very vigilant BUT I'm finally healthy after years of never being able to figure out what was wrong.

I've got Celiac (hyper sensitive to gluten - I have gotten extremely sick from kissing someone who ate gluten hours earlier), I'm lactose intolerant, and I've got a soy issue.

How to make it work? Learn to cook. Stalk food blogs who cater to your allergies, find forums for your allergies, and learn how to eat again. It is hard for a while, but my gluten intolerance has forced me to learn about my other food intolerances, helped me figure out I wasn't actually depressed nor did I need to be medicated for ADD  I cook a lot of vegan foods, and I have fallen in love with the farmers market near my house. It isn't awful, I promise.

I would suggest you look into Paleo/Primal. It would probably fit your diet alright.

FabCheeky: that sucks about corn :( and no rice?! I've never heard of such a thing. Well done on seeing the bright side!

Wow...I thought I had it bad! I'm not allergic to quite as many things as you, but I feel your pain.

I'm allergic to sulfites, and it sucks! Actually, I should say, I have an intolerance to sulfites, as it's not an allergy in the strictest sense. But when I consume foods with sulfites, I develop swelling and hives on my face, neck, and torso. My allergist has given me an extensive list of foods to avoid, including wine, wine vinegar, dried fruit, molasses, bottled lime/lemon juice, shrimp, salmon, pork, onions, garlic, peppers, mushrooms, tomato products, corn syrup, corn starch, pectin, condiments, soy, and more. They've told me I'd be wise to avoid all packaged foods as many foods contain low levels of sulfites which don't have to be reported on food labels.

To deal with it, I've become a little neurotic about checking labels as sulfites aren't always clearly labeled; I avoid eating food that I didn't prepare; and when I eat out, I tend to go to the same places all the time and eat things I've had before without incident. I'm lucky in that I can usually tolerate very small amounts of sulfites with little or no reaction, although, when something slips by me and I have a reaction, my system is super-sensitive for the next several months.

Good luck figuring out what works for you. Feel free to add me as a friend if you want someone to commiserate with you when you're feeling frustrated.

I'm allergic to corn and am lactose sensitive. I develop rashes all over my hands/chest when I consume corn-products. Most cheeses I can have but ice-cream, milk, and some yogurts really upset my digestive tract. Although I am not allergic to as many things as you, and I am sorry that you are, corn is surprisingly in everything in some baser form or another. Finding things to eat as a vegetarian (yea, I'm making life difficult, aren't I?) on restrictive terms is hard. My advice, find things that you really like (that you can have) and stock-pile them in your pantry. That way you'll never have that feeling of "oh I can't eat anything". :o)
