OK.....You Can Call Me Stupid, But.......

I'm struggling on maintenance and have gained 3lbs in the last couple of weeks
According to MFP, my BMR is 1229 (Sedentary.....I sit at a desk all day); my cal goal for weight loss was 1200 but my maintenance level is a massive 1530. Surely it follows that if I eat more than 1229 calories a day before exercise then I'll gain? And if I do eat 1530, I have to burn off 300 cals a day just to stay where I am?
Am I really stupid, or am I missing something here?
HELP!!!

Normally the 1500 average is to maintain the same weight.
The 1200 calories is to lose weight.
You can choose to eat or not eat your excerise calories.0 -

Pretty much this.
The 1229 cals was to lose but the 1530 is to maintain.
I always eat my exercise calories so would continue to do so.
I believe it is quite common to gain a little when you go to Maintanence0 -
You can also view this by going to "My Home" and then "Goals"
Should looks something like this:
Your diet Profile Target
Calories Burned
From Normal Daily Activity 1,920 calories/day
Net Calories Consumed*
Your Daily Goal 1,200 calories/ day
Daily Calorie Deficit 720 calories
Projected Weight Loss 1.4 lbs/ week0 -
I may be wrong but i thought the 1229 is what you will burn just to survive, so any movement during the day will burn extra calories, just doing basic daily chores will probably burn those 300 through the day.0

Did you go straight to maintenance or did you reduce to 1/2lb a week for a while first? If you didn't do the intermediate stage, it may take a while to adjust. In the meantime, yes, eat those exercise calories!0

It gave me 1590 for maintenance, I reset it to 1400, but I'm having a hard time even netting that. DH keeps yelling at me because I keep dropping weight, but I just can't get enough calories smartly now. That's my maintenance issue.0
