Birth Control

Ladies, help me!
I had to start taking birth control 2 weeks ago due to medical problems I'm having and I'm just on a low dose (Loestrin) and I have randomly put on 3.5 pounds ALREADY! I am still exercising and eating healthy. I'm always within my calorie goal for the day as well. It's just extremely upsetting when you live an extremely healthy lifestyle and have been continuously losing weight and all of the sudden, the scale is going up day by day in such a short time. Does anyone have any feedback for me? what causes this and will I just keep gaining?!!?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your body is just adjusting to the new medicine in it's system. Usually you need to give it at least a month for your body to adjust.0

I find it harder to lose weight on birth control, too, but I pretty much just had to come to terms with the fact that I have to eat a bit less and exercise a bit more to get past it. No magic solution for it, I'm afraid.0

If you just started, your body might be adjusting to it. Continue what you're doing and drink lots of water? I know the first time I went on the pill it took a month to get used to it (picture 24 hr uber-PMS... yikes). Good luck!0

it is possible to lose weight while on BC. I have been able to lose 21lbs so far while on BC. Your body just need to adjust to it, give it a few months then see where you are.0

I suspect the pill was also a major contributor to my weight gain. I'd been very pear-shaped all my life (slim upper body -- chest, natural waist, etc.) and heavier on the bottom. Within a few months of starting the pill, I had a chest and the beginnings of a gut. So it wasn't just weight gain -- it was a change to the whole shape of my body.
As for advice... I'm afraid I don't have any. The one time I went off the pill, I didn't see any changes back to my old shape. So for me it's been a matter of accepting that my body is different now, accepting that what used to work for me might not work now, and learning how to work with my new body.
Good luck!0 -
I take Loestrin too, and I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much.. its not an actual gain, it's just water weight. Your body is not used to the extra hormones yet, and is trying to regulate its self.
Once your body gets used to it, it will go away. In the meantime, drink some extra water to help flush some of that out... I love Loestrin, and wouldn't ever think about taking anything else.0 -

This. You generally bloat the first couple weeks you start taking the pill. I am on loestrin, and have seen no weight gain. give your body at least 4-6 weeks, and then reevaluate0 -
Thanks very much everyone. Luckily I'm only supposed to be on it for 2 months. Its just really discouraging to look at the scale and see my weight go up. Also, it gives me hugeeeee mood swings and I feel bad for my hujsband since he has to deal with me! haha. I have tried several different birth control's in the past and they all gave me huge mood swings. I was mean all the time! Thats what made me totally against birth control because I saw what it was doing to me. Now I actually HAVE to take it and it sucks!0

I had a horrendous time with any and all birth control. I was at 100lbs right before getting married (yes I know that's way underweight) and then I got on the shot after my son. I gained 10lbs when I tried to get pregnant so I ended up at 116lbs after the baby. I looked good! I wasn't a noodle like before!
So I got the Depo shot cuz I was forgetful about the pill. I don't think it was the shot itself that caused me to balloon up to 150 but the other things that come with the shot. I was depressed and felt sluggish.
So I got on the Pill and lost ten pounds but was still big. Note that I'm only 5'3".
I was moody, teary, sad, etc. I hate birth control.0 -
yeah I felt seriously depressed this morning after I weighed myself. I have been "off" lately. Extremely moody and grumpy and sad about my little weight gain.0
