I was recommended Vibram running shoes from my Chiropractor. Has anyone tried them? I would appreciate any feedback on them before I go buy them. Thanks.

I have them, both my husband and I do. You have to break them in alittle slowly. But honestly they are pretty awesome it's just feels more natural I love hiking in mine.

I just bought a pair and I love them. I use them when doing Tae Bo and the Elliptical. I want to start running, but it will be a slow process. I haven't ran since HS and you have to learn how to run again because the Vibrams promote forefoot striking instead of heel striking. Make sure to read up on it (google barefoot running) and go to a store to actually try them on (sizing is different than normal shoes). Good luck!
  • I love to workout barefoot and I bought the vibrams so I could run "barefoot". Shoes, when exercising, make my feet go numb. I do not have that problem with the vibrams. I really enjoy using them and running in them is a whole new experience. You use muscles that you never even knew existed!!! I was sore for days after I ran in them the first time. I love them and think they are so worth the price. People do tend to stop you and ask you about them, they are all quite intrigued by them. haha!
  • I also would love to know if they are worth it...BUMP!
  • From everything I've read about them they are good for running. However they are recommending a break in period for running because you're going to be running more on your toes and not with the heel strike and roll. It's a learning curve that you're calves and feet are going to have to get used to. I would slowly move to them. Like run in typical tennis shoes 2-3 days a week and the Vibrams 2 days a week, alternating.

My boyfriend and I love ours. I used to go to a chiropractor for upper back issues. I'm not sure how much they've helped that but they are really great once you get used to them.
  • I love them, very comfy and great to workout in

Lots of research about "barefoot running" and "minimalist shoes" and so forth on the forums here if you search or on the internet as well. Vibrams are unique and promote natural foot strike and movement. It will take some time to get acclimated to walking/running in them but for a lot of people the end results are great.

I've had mine for nearly 2 years now, and adore them. In the past, they've mostly served for hiking/walking/rock scrambling. I started running a couple of months ago, and LOVE running in them *on my treadmill*. I tried running in them on pavement a week or so ago, and decided I needed slightly more cushioning for street running. (My Merrell Barefoot Paces are coming today...)
  • My husband has a pair. He enjoys them. However, I will tell you that we walked 3 miles on a sidewalk one Saturday afternoon, and that evening his feet were hurting. To Vibram's defense, they do make different kinds for different types of exercise, so it could be that we don't have the right pair for doing a lot outside.

I hope you find what you're looking for in a pair of shoes that will suit you.

I've got the five fingers Sprint, and love them. But I don't run. I use them for walking, as well as for water sports (or just plain going in the water on rocky shorelines). Even walking, they do take a bit of adjustment - don't go out on a three hour hike in your first week, or run the full distance you usually do. But they're a great shoe, and it doesn't take too too long to build up to them being as comfortable as any other shoe. It is like being barefoot, but with a bit of protection. Also a great conversation starter with random people who notice your shoes.

I have major feet pain due to wide, flat feet. They have solved all my problems. Each style has a different feel so I suggest trying them on in the store. They were difficult to get on at first but now they slip right on. I only use mine for gym/ work out videos and they have been awesome.
