The dreaded free chips and salsa

So, here I am 10 lbs down and headed to our favorite Mexican restaurant. I'm wondering how I'm going to keep from eating my usual half basket of the free chips and salsa. Don't know what made me think of it but I popped a piece of sugar free gum in my mouth in the parking lot thinking it would make the chips taste awful. And it worked! I had a half a chip that tasted horrible when combined with peppermint and then happily chewed my gum, keeping my mouth busy until they were gone! Saved by the gum!

  • I tell them not to bring them to the table, but to each his own!

My friends and I have the same problem! But it's more like an entire basket of chips to myself. A normal serving size is 9 chips and 2 tablespoons of salsa...take the serving size, put it on a napkin and then ask them to take the rest of the basket away. That way you get your "fix" without feeling bad about it! Enjoy :)

my weakness as well. It is the Kryptonite of my diet! I was suprised they didnt give free chips n salsa at the last mexican restaurant I ate at in Austin. Hurts less when they are not there. Just ask them politely to take them off your table.

    Good luck!

Yes! Always ask them when they seat you to NOT bring them to the table, and you'll be fine!

I request that it not be brought or I count our 9-12 chips and put them on my side and eat only those. Salsa is a pretty low calorie "dip" so I don't worry about it too much for those 9-12 chips.
  • Good job! I just sat there with my hands folded under the table drinking my water with lemon last time. Because I know if I start with even just 1 chip, I'll eat half the basket.

That is not a bad idea. I usually have a couple, but try to focus on the meal ahead. If I fill up on the chips, I never want to eat my meal, which I actually like better (shrimp or flank steak fajitas).

When we went a while back I actually asked them to not bring them out. If they are not on the table.. I can't eat them!

That is the best part of the meal...I could live on chips and salsa, any form not just at the restaurant. I would be fine going to eat just those and not get food, but I have to get food too. I usually have leftovers though.

Oh, how I wish I could tell them not to bring them but my 6'3" husband that can eat anything he wants would have a fit! I'm still learning how to do what I need to instead of just joining in with him and eating junk. So hard...

We go there every Saturday.....and although my sodium level is high....I am back to normal of losing weight by Tuesday. I have lost 45 pounds since April....and it isnt hurting me....so, Im sticking with it! : ) I just work extra hard during the week for my chips and salsa on Saturday nights! :) (not everyone is the same though.....it is just working for me...: )
