Hey there,
I just bought the book The New Rules of Lifting for women. I would love to lose weight and build muscle and from what this guy says all are possible! Has anyone done this and have some tips for me? Should I follow their nutrition plan or do my own? Will I be able to lose weight while using this? I want to lose about 20 pounds for my wedding next year, but I also want to feel fit and toned. Any advice would be great!

  • Building muscles helps to burn fat. Or the more muscle you have, the more fat you can burn. Something like that. You would probably want to up your protein, but you wouldn't need to follow a specific diet.

I am doing NROL4W now, I started with a friend in May and we just began Stage 3 this week. I have lost 8 pounds and an inch or so from my waist, it is definitely working. I sorta follow the nutrition plan (target around 1700 calories per day and try to eat a lot of protein).

I did Body for Life for about 9 months before I got married in 2007 and I only lost about 10 pounds but lost a TON of inches (they had to take my dress in twice). Lifting weights can really resculpt your body without a huge change in the scale. So my advice would be yes, try it, but don't get hung up on the scale. Your body will reshape and that may not really reflect on the scale but it should with the tape measure.

    Good luck!
