When you KNOW you screwed up, do you weigh in?

Well, I KNOW I am over calories for today by AT THE VERY LEAST 500 cals, and I am probably being hopeful with that number. I had my hubby hide the scale from me so I can't weigh in tomorrow. I"m just curious how others handle that? After a calorie binge, do you weigh in the next day, or purposely avoid it?

I always weigh in. I'm finally down to once a day, but if my scheduled weigh in (the one I document) comes in the day after a binge, I still weigh and document.0

I weigh in. Might as well see what damage I've done.... Then drink a heap of water, accept the change in weight and move on.0

500 calories wouldn't matter the next day. You'd have to be 500 over for a week to gain a pound.0

yes, bec there are going to be times when this happens, no need to beat yourself up abt it, just record it, learn what not to do the next time, and keep it moving.
in this journey i was told to "always leave rooom for 1 step forward & two steps back".,it does get better with time.0 -

I still weigh-in as I normally would. This is my mindset: I made a mistake, it's my fault, and I need to see the damage as motivation to fix it. I feel like if I avoid the scale once, I'll keep messing up and avoiding the scale more and more... then when I finally weigh myself, I'll have a HUGE gain. Hope that makes some sense. Good luck!0

I weigh regardless. I have lost the fear of my scale (I had an aversion to it for over 10 years). Why am I scared of a number? If I screwed up, it's gonna tell me the truth (something I may not want to hear, but something that I NEED to hear...or see, as it is). It helps me get back on track and reevaluate why I am here and what I need to do to make a positive change.
BTW - one day is not going to ruin everything. You may be surprised! I know I had a really bad weekend with my food choices (though I stayed under my calorie goal), but when I weighed in on Monday (for my August team challenge), I lost 6 lbs between the prior Wednesday and that Monday. Not even sure how I pulled that one out, but I did and I'm thankful!0 -
Yep, I do... but only AFTER I've planned out what exactly my food and exercise plan for the next day to get back on track! Good luck, sweetie - it's probably not as bad as you think! x0

I weigh once a week, on Monday. I know there are weekends where I've screwed everything up, but I still weigh on Monday and record my weight.0

Otherwise, what's the point of logging or weighing in at all. It's good to have reminders of our successes and failures. Oddly, it's good to go back and see that we succeeded AFTER our failures while we are in the midst of a plateau or some other shortcoming. Gives a little hope when we might need it most.0 -

Getting on a scale 7 days a week is pointless either way. But I agree that going over for 1 day isn't going to make a huge difference overall. Keep going!0

I for sure weigh in! When i see the "damage" i remember it ... it only took one time for me and I haven't done it again. Everytime I feel myself ready to fall off the wagon I remember that day when I weighed in and saw all my hard work erased in such a short time! I also hated re-losing those pounds!0

For me the scales doesn't matter because the pounds go up either because of fat, muscle or water retention so you can never really tell especially if your lifting weights. I would panic more if my dresses are starting to tighten up than seeing my pounds creeping up. And FYI, it takes 3,500 calories to gain a pound of fat so an extra 500 cals alone isn't sufficient enough to weight gain unless you do it everyday.0

I weigh in. Just like gained 1 1/2 pounds since last week & I still record it. I hate seeing the number go down but it'll be okay in the end. I know I'll lose it again. Good luck!0

I throw a short pity party, drink lots of water, and reach out to my weight loss buddy. :laugh: I may put my weigh-in off by one day, but no more than two.0

Always. What are you hiding from? YOU know what you did. The rest of us don't care what you did. The only thing that matters is that you dust yourself off and try again. There is nothing to be gained by not weighing in or logging your food. Both serve as a great reminder of what you can overcome. Just today I was glancing through old food logs and was reminded there was a day when I exceeded my calories by nearly 1000. It flipped a switch for me. I haven't had a day like that since February. Log it. You'll be glad you did.0

I think seeing a gain tomorrow would hurt too much and could possibly send me into a shame spiral and cause another binge. I know 500 over won't cause TRUE gain, but it could cause water - I had a lot of salt - I just do not feel strong enough to face it tomorrow.0

It sounds like you've just answered your own question. Personally, I weigh myself almost daily. When I lose, I log it. If I gain, I don't. I just wait till I've lost again and then log it.0 -

I should do the same thing. A couple weeks ago I hit 199 which put me in onederland for the first time in 7 years, as well as the "50 pounds lost" mark. Well, that only lasted one day and I've been bouncing about in the 201-205 range every since - it has devastated me to lose those two milestones. And this happens a lot - I dip down, then go back up for a few days before it settles back down, but when its that big of a milestone its hard to swallow.0 -

I used to not do, not wanting to see the higher number. But that was my downfall in some cases. I would put off weighing for days, which turned into weeks, and eventually, I gained it all back. Now I force myself to. I won't let myself skip more than a day or two.0
