I understand that these affect everything from your brain synapses to heavy metal buildup in all of the cells and tissues of your beautiful body...don't recommend any of them:noway: :grumble: :ohwell:

Preservatives and anything else not considered "whole" when added to food greatly decreases the nutrients in the food. So, for example, fresh, whole green beans have 4 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein, 15% of your vitamin A, 30% of vitamin C, 4% calcium, and 6% iron for 110 grams. That same amount of canned green beans adds about 370 mg of sodium, only has 6% vitamin A , 4% vitamin C, and 1 gram of fiber.

A lot of processed foods will also increase the sugar content.

If you're really interested in this kind of thing and want to be overwhelmed with information, I would suggest reading In Defense of Food. It's not an easy read but really changed the way I think about food.

I'll be interested to read what other people's responses will be to this too since it's a topic that is so near and dear to me.

    Good luck! :)

Read Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism - I explains it all very clearly. She lists the ones to completely avoid and why: High Fructose Corn Syrup, artificial sweeteners, monosodium glutamate and many others. There a list of the ones to have in moderation. And the power foods to eat instead. It would be very hard to follow her meal plan exactly - especially with a family of 5 to feed, but my motivation and energy at its highest when I'm conscious of the preservatives and chemicals. I don't exercise a whole lot (little bits here and there added to my busy daily life) and I'm still losing the weight and gaining the energy. I would highly recommend the book - I got it on my kobo but would prefer to have a hard copy because you can't quickly flip through it with a kobo.

is there any chance you would be able to post that list of ones to avoid/ ones to have in moderation?? that would be really helpful if youve got the time!
