I have been counting calories and eating clean for the most part for months now. Here is my problem. I have a Bodybugg and have used a Polar F4 in the past..........I am burning anywhere from 2,350 calories to 2.500 calories everday. Sometimes it is higher. I do cardio 4 to 5 times a week and have included strength training in the last 2 months. I lift light weights............8 to 10 pounds........and usually do a whole body workout with weights 3 times a week...........I have not lost one pound........and really haven't lost any inces either. I just don't get it........I've had my thyroid check and it is perfectly fine. The only answer that I got from my dr. was well...........ur metabolism could be slowing.............umm no way.......I see how many calories I am burning and it isn't possible!! Any suggestions????? I have actually gained 17 pounds in the last year and a half........I'm sure some of it is muscle ..........but I should still be able to drop te pounds. :( So frustrated!! The cardio is not a new thing I have been a cardio junkie for years!!!

You probably aren't eating enough. It takes calories to burn calories.

Yes, I'm thinking it has something to do with what you are or are not eating. For burning that many calories, I'm going to say you should probably be eating at least 2,200 calories a day. Your body isn't going to give anything up if it isn't getting anything else to burn.
  • Those are my thoughts as well............but I really don't know how much more I can eat.........I average about 1,600 calories a day.....I am going to add in some casein powder at night ..........to see if that helps. I eat 5 to 6 times a day, but still can't seem to get above the 1,600 calories and day and honestly sometimes it is closer to 1,200-1,300. I just wish I could find a menu to go by that was practical I am not a big cooker and I don't like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I try not to eat a lot of processed foods like frozen dinners and bagged chips that are not organic............I am a teacher and I start back to school next week.......so lunch has to be something quick as do snacks ........I only have about 5 minutes to eat a snack :) Anybody got a menu they would like to share???
  • Its definitely your eating. 1200 cals a day with as much as you are burning, your body is starving and holding all of your calories and storing them as fat! =( Its hard to wrap your mind around, but EAT! And I highly suggest learning to cook. You may not like it at first, but if you truly want to lose the weight, Not liking something is just an excuse. Not trying to be mean or rude, I have the same problem with water. I don't like it. But my body needs it, so as my momma said to me, suck it up buttercup!

Increase the protein you are eating each day, raw nuts, lean meats, etc. I make a value pak of grilled chicken, pork chops and fish every Sunday. I use that as my source for my snacks and lunches for the week. I pre weigh and package everything on Sunday, including cutting up fruits, veggies, etc. I use gladware 1/2 cup containers and fill them up with veggies, rice, fruits, nuts, etc. Then its just grab and go. I don't cook during the week usually, as i don't get home from school til 10:30pm. You can do this, but you have to want it bad enough that it outweighs everything else.

I believe in you, YOU CAN DO THIS! =)
  • Thank u :) I know I can do it........I lost 80 pounds 8 years ago and have kept t off except for the 17 pounds gained in the past year and a half and I guess all this started when I increased my exericse. On top of working all day I teach 4 aerboic classes a week and I burn 400 to 500 calories in each class. I am also strength training..........and I run.... and walk 6 miles a week with a walking group.....I know I am repeating what I said in my first post........but it does make sense that my body is not being fed properly.........I guess it has been screaming at me because I'm not eating appropriately. I do plan to make Sat. or Sun afternoon prep days....since I am going back to work and I have a football player in the house LOL........so we are going to be running for the next couple of months to games and such. I actually spent part of the morning yesterday cutting up fruits and veggies........my husband loves to cook so I'm going to enlist his help :) He makes some awesome chicken salad ...............and lots of other tasty things....I can cook I just hate it .........and u r right it is just an excuse I suppose..........so I am going to do this...........finding that right amount of calories is gonna be hard though, but I'm gonna play with and see what I can do...........I also usually eat the same thing for breakfast but I didn' t this morning .........I had egg substitute, I am allergic to eggs so I can't eat them, turkey bacon and oatmeal..........instead of my usual shake........so I'm goinna mix up my food a couple of times a week and see if that works too. .......and yes I loathe water too, but I suck it up and drink 100 oz. a day because I found about 6 months ago that I was dehydrated and started having some adverse effects!!........So now I feel up my big bottle and chug away.........people at work look at me strange, but that's o.k. I don't care! LOL Thank you for your response........and I appreciate you believing in me!! I work hard to keep others healthy as I am a Beachbody Coach, Personal trainer, and aerobic instructor, but I guess I'm not paying enough attention to myself!
  • I feel your pain fitnesschickie, is exactly what I'm going thru even though I don't exercise as much as you do.. I'm 180 lbs, do high impact exercise 4 days a week and limit my food intake to 1200-1400 calories a day for the past 2 months and I haven't lost a pound... I'm so frustrated... I have high blood pressure so I'm afraid of trying one of those pills out there to help me lose weight...my next stop is to see my doctor to see if there is any health problem that's preventing me to lose weight, who knows...I'm 43 years old and I heard hormones plays a roll sometimes...will appreciate any suggestions or advise...

We all have to eat - it's counter-intuitive but it works! If you exercise you have to eat back the calories - your body is telling you the answer - we all just have to listen. We are so used to crash dieting and limiting food that we can't get out heads around eat more lose more when we exercise.
I, too, hate to cook and I hate to grocery shop- but the alternative for me has been fast food - which certainly did not turn out well. I have found that having a prep day or really a couple of hours really works. Get yourself some small plastic "tupperware" type containers and fill them with healthy foods - then get a decent size lunch box and an ice pack and fill it up for the day - so you can keep it at your desk- then you can take those 5 minute breaks and slam some good food in there throughout the day - in order to compete with the amount of exercise you are doing - you are pretty much going to have to eat continuously throughout your day and add some protein shakes, etc. to drink at your desk or something? Good luck - you can do this!
