i have been reviewing HRMs and there are plenty out there at various prices. I want one that works but would prefer to not pay too much. Any suggestions?

Polar F4 of F7 depending on where you work out. The F4 *may* get interference with other Polars if you are at a gym -- the F7 will not. Although I've never heard of anyone having issues with the F4.

Really, you just want to be sure you have something with a chest strap. Everyone has different opinions on other models - but I've only had good experiences with Polar and have never heard of someone not having a good experience with it Doesn't mean there aren't other just as good brands out there.

Just be sure you get one with a chest strap!

By far the best HRM I found to be is the: Polar FT7 (Any Polar watch is great but this is the one I chose)
The lowest price I have seen for this watch is $88 dollars (I bought for 110.00) it's come down since. But I bought one that was half the price and it was a piece of ____.
This works with a chest strap...at first I thought this is going to be uncomfortable but it actually isn't. I have noticed that it's more accurate than what any exercise machine shows you. When I log my fitness I'm logging the info from my watch. Every second counts so if you let go of the machines sensors it might not pick up the seconds your heart reached a high. At the end it shows your highest HR and your average HR during that workout.

You can purchase an adaptor that will download the info from your watch to your computer (I didn't get it because I keep the log here). The watch itself will hold the files for each workout which you can go back and look at.

In this case you do get what you pay for. Hope this helped.

thanks to both of you. I did see the Polar on Amazon in the $80 range and it had good reviews but wanted confirmation.

Polar is honestly the best bang for your buck.. and the FT4 or FT7 will work just fine.

Another poster mentioned the FT4 may cross talk, but it does not. The FT4 does not cross talk with other monitors since it uses a digital signal that locks on to your watch and your watch only.. so don't let that persuade you to chose one over the other.
