Oh My Thighs!!!

I went jean shopping during my lunch break, and I was resigned to the fact that I would be buying a pair of size 12 jeans. While I would love to wait so I could buy a smaller pair, I need new jeans!

So I grabbed a couple of pairs of dark wash jeans (for the slimming effect, ya know?) and headed into the dressing room...the jeans fit everywhere except my THIGHS!! I have always had this problem...My thighs are bigger than the rest of my body, but especially now that I'm carrying extra weight! Ugh! :explode:

So, this does relate to fitness and exercise, I promise!! Is doing lower body weights going to make my thighs bigger? Should I cut down on the weight lifting?? Or is there something I can do to streamline my thighs a bit? I know I can't spot-reduce...But really...I need SOMETHING for my thighs!!

Oh, and no, I did not buy any jeans today. I guess I will be waiting until I'm a bit smaller after all.

I have the same issue with my thighs. Honestly, it's just how your body is proportioned. Your thighs will get smaller over time but they will alwasy be the same size proportionately. It's depressing, I know :grumble:

ARRRRRRGGGHHHHH and I have exactly the OPPOSITE problem. Certain pants fit nice around my waist and hips, but bag out around my thighs!! :explode: grrrr.. nothing makes me madder. I'm in a 12, and I could fit two of my thighs in one leg!

My butt needs to get a little smaller, and my thighs need to get bigger, but try as I have with weight training, I have not been able to get my thighs any bigger!

Uh-Oh...So if you're trying to get your thighs bigger with weight training, does that mean I should stop if I want my thighs smaller? I mean, I know a pound of muscle is smaller visually than a pound of fat...But I think I might be adding muscle to my already chubby thighs and just making them bigger! HaHa...Probably not, but seriously? Weight training? Good for smaller thighs, or not?
  • I have the opposite problem too. It's so frustrating. I will go try on a pair of jeans and they fit perfectly everywhere but they wont even button. I hate it!

I have this same problem. I noticed a difference after doing lunges and squats:smile: . Hopefully there will be more suggestions.

If your only goal for your legs is to get them in a smaller pair of pants, then no, strength training alone will not help you with that.

If you want to change the shape of your legs, or build up the glutes to make your legs look smaller in proportion, strength training CAN help.

    NewMK08-
I also have this problem. There are so many brands and cuts that i cannot wear because they are to tight on my thighs. I found that Kohl's Sonoma (sp?) jeans are roomier in the thighs. along with Levi 515 or 505's

I tend to keep with the boot cut (and yes, the darker the better)!!!

I have come up with the idea that I only can buy clothes at the Goodwill or at some other second hand store until I am at least half way to my goal (I have a ton of clothes from 4 years ago that are that size). My halfway reward is to BURN at least one of my big size out fits and donate the rest to Goodwill or some place like that.

My reward for losing my entire 60lbs, is a whole new wardrobe right down to my skivvies.

I also find that a lot of the used jeans are in great shape but are magically roomier in the thighs.... I bought a pair of Abercrombie jeans for $1.49 a couple months ago. That is one of the brands I usually cannot wear because of my thighs.... but I can wear these.

You just have to allow yourself more time to shop and try on the clothes... but this way you don't spend a bunch of money on clothes your don't ever want to fit into again.

Don't quit weights training your legs.

Smaller weights at 3 sets of 15 reps will help tone your legs. So will Pilates and Yoga. If you can learn a little ballet, ballet and Pilates is all about long lean muscles.

To bulk up the muscle, do heavier weights 1 or 2 sets of 5-8 reps.
  • You're not the only one  I am also like this. My thighs are the second biggest part of my body next to my butt. It's really hard finding the right pair of jeans because when they fit my thighs they are to big on my stomach.

I am also like this, my arms are giant
